I am moving to Texas at the end of April. I had plans on renting a truck and driving it down there myself, but I now am bringing an addtional car and I will need an additional driver.
I have been doing some checking, and came across a website called emove. It looks like I can hire someone to drive the truck there. They can also help me load it up.
Do any of you recommend this service? Are these contractors reliable?
Thank you
Larry |

I don't know about this one. I can think of many many things that could go wrong and you'd be totally on teh hook for all of them.
Why don't you look into going with Broadway Express www.broadwayexpress.net or ABF www.upack.com - they'll do the driving and you'd do the loading/unloading at each end. With Broadway Express, you can even ship a vehicle with it. |

| I have 600 dollars in vouchers for the rental truck. I am getting it at next to nothing. If I make sure the company has insurance, get the insurance on the truck, and follow them there, do you still think there would be a problem? |

Is the emove.com company you are thinking of using licensed to do interstate moves? _________________ Diane

Not if their licensed by the USDOT to provide "for-hire" personal household goods moving services across state lines. You'll find a list of these types of companies listed under "Movers".
Arranging for someone to provide this service "under the table" might expose you to any applicable fines and penalties if you or your "driver" are discovered. The worse case scenario would be where the person driving the truck was involved in a major accident involving a fatality. No insurance would cover your personal liability. |

I do not feel comfortable shipping my belongings or my car without me knowing exactly where they are at all times.
I do not know if these companies are licesned to interstate moves or not. How could I find out? |

If they are licensed for interstate moves, they have to have a Motor Carrier (MC) license number from the FMCSA. Ask them for that number. Then go to www.safersys.org and go to Company Snapshot at the bottom to plug in the number to see whether the license is active, i.e. has not been revoked.
I think it is unlikely that those emove companies are licensed for interstate moves (or even intrastate moves) and in my opinion it would be safer for you to drive the rental truck yourself and have someone you hire drive your car, or, get one of the auto transporters that we endorse to give you a quote on hauling it. |

Were you looking to rent a truck to move your HHG and vehicle to save money or so you could know "exactly where they are at all times"?
If cost is the concern, you can enter a carrier's name in the FMCSA's SAFER http://www.safersys.org/CompanySnapshot.aspx or Protect Your Move http://ai.volpe.dot.gov/hhg/search.asp databases to check their applicable authorities and insurance.
If visibility and tracking is the issue, most of the major approved HHG carriers have some type of GPS system to record the history and location of their vehicles. |

Hi again - we know about Patt's and it has a good review here: http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=57657#57657 It got its interstate moving license just last year. I think this company would probably be OK to use. I didn't realize that it was listed on emove.com but will add that detail to the Superlist.
Where did you see its 200 good reviews?
I think people have posted here that it is not legal for moving companies to drive rental trucks like U-Haul trucks unless their name is on the truck, even if it has to be written on a piece of cardboard and stuck on the door. I am not sure about this. Maybe Rick will comment.
