10K lbs of weight and it will only cost 5K to move 2,000 miles??????

Postby Elysse33 » Mon Jun 04, 2007 8:07 pm

How can that be??

It is the same as a local move her in dallas?? This is an AMSA certifieid company....King Van LInes...they say the are not brokers, and all employees work for them...they use the Amsa 401 tarrif law (something like that)...

They have a branch in Dallas and are based on the west Coast. They say their employees will also be there to unload as they have moves scheduled from Sacramento to Seattle often.

They also say those loading and unloading will have no less than 1 year experience and trained by them?

Why does this 2,011 mile move cost what it would cost me to move 20 miles???

Is this the company?

King Van Lines
11285 Sunrise Gold Circle
Sacramento, CA 95742
US DOT # 1082608

King Van Lines
6963 Power Inn Rd
Sacramento, CA 95828
MC# 447437

If yes, I would recommend against using them based on some of the following information.

They only have 3 trucks.
In 2007 they have had complaints in the following categories:
Hostage: 5
Pick-Up/Delivery: 3
Loss/Damage: 3
Weighing: 2
Shipment Documents: 3
Estimates/Final Charges: 1

Keep in mind this is for 2007 only!!

You are asking a question that I think you already know the answer to. If it sounds too good to be true - then it is. Locate legitimate movers in your area and have them come into the home and perform a written estimate, preferably a guaranteed not to exceed one.

What cities are you moving to and from?

What discount did they give you?

There is a KING that is an agent for United Van Lines, is this the same one?

If this is the company - definitely do not use them. When I searched further with the DOT & MC #'s it identifies Moving Star California which is on the blacklist here.

Please provide more details on company name and MC number which should be on your estimate.

The United agent is King Relocation Services with the following:
MC# 67234
DOT# 077949
PUC No Cal T-55978

This is a reputable company.

i would say any company thats offering you that price has something wrong with it i disagree with using the fact that they only have 3 trucks against them because my company only has 4 trucks and were quite reputable .... any company quoting under say 75 cents a pound has a problem i would recommend calling united van lines toll free number and asking them who to call.... mind you now all agents are perfect.... another thing you could do is call north american van lines or atlas van lines ... mayflower is also a trusted name but their owned bu united van lines anyways ... uvl head office i believe is in fenton something im in canada so i cant help much other then that all i can say is that quote is too low and to distance yourself from them asap

It may be King relo. I have a pal who used to do the LA to Seattle run several times / month...

I doubt the price though...maybe it just cubes out at 10K - are you shipping styrofoam ;) Seriously, though give the mc # of the carrier so we can know who you are talking about.

Thanks for the help!

Yes, I should have said, move is from Dallas to Seattle.

Company name is King Van Lines
877-432-move

US DOT 1082608
Registration 18975

Say they are using AMSA 400 N Tarrif Pricing

The woman I spoke with did say they were based in Sacramento....

I think the 5k included some packing also...

thanks so much,

Elysse,

That's the King Van Lines/MovingStar California, not the United agent.

They've been Blacklisted for a while for scam tactics:
http://www.movingscam.com/cgi-bin/BLRep ... compid=375

68 BBB complaints, 40 of them from this year alone.

Dump them.

I did plug in your weight and distance into the 400N tariff software. I come up with about $6,000 for that weight and those cities.

I think you can find a full service mover who can handle it.

If you are moving in June, book soon!! Many movers are already booking up for the month.
