Quantcast
"You Load/We Drive" moves are usually much less expensive than full-service moves. You control your moving costs by loading your items yourself within the space you reserve. Charges are based on space used and distance traveled; weight is not considered. Because you load your own shipment, you are primarily responsible if scratches, dents, and breakage occur, although your shipment is covered for damage caused by company negligence or catastrophes.
Full service moving companies do the loading, driving, and unloading for you and also pack your items if desired. However, these moves are usually much more expensive than self-moves. Charges are based on the weight of the shipment and distance traveled. Items are covered for damage caused by company negligence or catastrophes and you can also buy enhanced valuation coverage for scratches, dents, and breakage from the company.
Auto transport companies These auto transporters own their own trucks and have their own drivers. They are not brokers that would shop your move to the lowest bidder and keep you waiting until someone agrees to move your car. If you ship your car with them, you can talk to the driver so you will always know where your car is. They are not cut-rate operators, but reviews show that they have performed very well for customers at reasonable cost.
Auto transport brokers do not own their own trucks. They book your car with the actual carrier and charge a small fee (typically $150-$200) to do so. A good broker with many contacts can be very helpful. However, choose one like ProStar that works with high-quality carriers and will not just place your car with the lowest bidder. The broker should also stay on top of your move so you know where your car is and when it will be delivered.
International moving companies arrange for your goods to be seen and measured, packaged, moved to port or airport, transported internationally, and delivered. For safety, be sure that any company you contract with is licensed by the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC).
MovingScam-Approved Companies There are many good moving companies besides the few companies that are formally endorsed by MovingScam. The following companies are properly licensed and insured. They have numerous excellent, believable reviews and few or no complaints, showing that they are committed to providing high-quality moves. They have each assigned a person to help MovingScam customers with any problems that may arise.

In view of this, MovingScam has given these companies its seal of approval. This seal of approval is a step below formal endorsement only because, as van line agents, they are not able to control every move from start to finish, although they are able to control moves that they do using their own trucks and drivers. Especially for the latter type of move, MovingScam.com recommends these companies with confidence.

ASAP Van Lines has changed their name to Chicago Moving Systems to avoid their terrible reputation.

Please take note of this and spread the word.

To prove my point...

At the link below please search by "Corporate" and the "file number".

http://www.ilsos.gov/corporatellc/

The file number for ASAP is 63722332
The file number for Chicago Moving Systems is 65637197

You will see the companies are both registered to the same owner, Dror Borohov, a known scammer in the industry. Also you will see that the incorporation for ASAP Van Lines has been dissolved.

You will also see Chicago Moving Systems' domain is registered to ASAP Van Lines

http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/results.jsp?domain=chicagomovingsystems.com

Compare the phone numbers on the websites....

http://www.asapvanlines.com/
http://www.chicagomovingsystems.com/

Finally I would like to quote some false advertising on the Chicago Moving Systems' website...

"100% Total Satisfaction Guarantee

This is the guarantee that Chicago Moving Systems has lived by for over 15 years. Whether you are moving across the street or across the country, let our experienced staff of dedicated "Furniture Handlers" hake your relocation a "Moving Experience!"

This company hasn't been around even 5 years let alone 15...

I dont know about this Dori guy from Chicago Moving Systems, he is linked to all the following companies

www.asapvanlines.com Which is now closed
www.chicagomovingsystems.com which is brand newly opened
www.asapvanlinesoftexas.com which is now AMPM Moving
www.reliablevanlines.com which is a inactive broker and a lead generation website?

This seems like some pretty shady stuff to me. I would avoid this company at all costs, keep in mind they are attempting to gain business using 123movers.com

http://www.123movers.com/moving_companies/Chicago_IL/z-60601/s-residential/results.html

BEWARE OF CHICAGO MOVING SYSTEMS!!!!

Thank you David for posting this information. I also check the Consumerist and they have noted the name change. ASAP will admit nothing, deny everything and then make counter accusations as a method of wearing you down.

Someone should tell them the watering the lawn is not part of the typical moving service.

This made me chuckle a little. At this point they're not even attempting to cover up that they're the same company.

Yep, classic reason to handle moving yourself and don't let overzealous and very-well-meaning family members say that they'll take care of everything.

Had a big move from Chicago to California and my dad offered to find the company himself. Since he was laid off recently I figured it couldn't hurt to let him have something to occupy himself with and he's usually got a good eye for scams. He hired Chicago Moving systems and paid for 400 of the initial cost himself as a gift. I had everything packed and the Chicago movers were really pretty nice and very efficient, and I didn't know then about the huge warning sign that they charged by cubic feet.

The stuff got to California about 2 weeks late but I honestly didn't mind that much, but when the stuff showed up it was a completely different person than anyone I had dealt with before. All that showed up was one scummy sort of foreman character who apparently hired two illegals from a home depot. I don't want to get the illegal workers in this area in trouble so I wasn't about to report it - nor do the police in the area really care, but neither of them spoke any English at all. They also lifted with their backs and put 30 pound boxes on their necks - definitely not professional movers.

Of course, I had the classic stuff-held-for-ransom situation, but what made mine worse is they never let me know when they were going to show up. I had called the Chicago Moving Systems guy and he never really clued me in that the driver was somebody I had never even talked to. He told me they would give me 24 hours notice so I could alert work. Instead, I got an angry call from my landlord one day while I was at work. Apparently there was a short angry guy (the foreman) knocking on the door of her office every 15 minutes and also bothering my neighbors asking where I was.

The only thing that made me feel a little better about it was he was a real shrimp of a guy, only about 5'6 and I'm a sort of imposing 6'4, so when I showed up he had a real oh crap look on his face. He barely muttered out that he was holding my stuff ransom and I needed to pay an extra 550 dollars. I let the profanities fly, called him scum of the earth while I paid the fee then yelled at him to get my stuff. I figured at his point I was pretty screwed out of cash so I was getting all my joys out of making him fear for his life. He really thought he was just going to sit in the cab of the truck while the two other guys had to do everything! That bothers me on a whole other level, so I screamed at him to get to work and called him every name in the book, never saw someone run so damn fast.

I really don't recommend getting this angry or getting as loud or mean as I got if it happens to you, but I can't even explain the level of aggravated I was on - my brain was telling me no need to get angry, but my body was having none of it.

Best part, at the end he's standing at the door with this nasty I can't believe you made me work look on his face and he says that tips were customary. I broke out a smile, said hey you're all right really sorry about all that, let me grab my wallet, then kicked the door shut. THEN he had the nerve to keep pounding on my door, look in my windows, and knock on my windows for 5 minutes. Suddenly that "other move he needs to get to 30 miles away" must have gotten a lot less important. Only thing that got the rat to leave was when I said in a loud voice "Hello police, I'd like to report a prowler harassing all of the tenants in my complex." I wasn't actually calling the police but thinking back I really should have.

As angry as I was and as squirmy as the little punk got, it still doesn't give me back my 550 dollars, so definitely always do your reaearch first, don't get lazy and let someone else do your work for you and stay far far away from Chicago Moving Systems.
