I am moving from GA to miami Fl and

Postby k move » Fri Mar 18, 2005 5:07 pm

I have gotten some estimates from US 1 Van lines and EZ Movers and there is like a $1000.00 (one thousand dollars) difference between them. With all the scam going on I do not know what to do. :? I need some advice!! Thank you,

Drop both those companies immediately. They are both scammers. Click on the smiley face at the above left for a general orientation to the issues. When do you have to move and how much stuff do you have?

Hi - don't panic. From what I can gather, Atlanta Peach is a Wheaton agent and it is reputable in that sense, although there can be variations in quality among Wheaton agents. So I think you should go ahead and get an estimate from them.

Please post the addresses, phone numbers, and/or license numbers of the other two companies that you mentioned in your first post so I can be absolutely sure that they are the same bad companies I am familiar with. See this thread for US-1 Van Lines - http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1555

You could also move with Broadway Express for about $1700 plus about $200 for loading and unloading labor - see http://www.broadwayexpress.net/household.html If you're interested in that, please read the reviews of BE on the sticky at the top of the messageboard.

atlanta peach and peach state movers are good. even 2 men and a truck is good in atlanta. i lived there for 18 years and every local move we used one of the 3. but for long distance moves i feel safer with a united or north american agent in atlanta.

Thank you; your comment was very helpful. Since this is a relatively short move and Atlanta Peach is a Wheaton agent, I think it would probably be OK. If it were a move more than a day's drive away I wouldn't be as comfortable.

Diane,

Please also check the following shortcut.

http://www.dmvs.ga.gov/cvc/carriersdata.asp

Even though you are interstate you can use this site as a means of evaluations. Call and confirm they are current. FYI Two men and a truck have many DBA's in Georgia.

Peach State movers are not listed on the DMV listings as licenced, possible Peachtree Movers ?

Good luck

Thank you, Doug. I will bookmark that site. There is a Peach State Movers that comes up on Google with phone number 770-938-6889. Doing a reverse phone number lookup, that number resolves to Capital Movers, which again isn't listed on the DMV website so I would say the company probably isn't licensed (not that uncommon with small local movers).
