Re: Moving from NC to Long Island NY

Follow-up: We went with Hilldrup. No preferred vendor offered for relocation just a lump sum to use on moving. The day of the move the driver had a blown tire so arrived at 11am vs. the 9am I was told. I had to contact the Hilldrup office to find out what was going on. The load took a very long time...

Re: Moving from NC to Long Island NY

I have started with Hildrup. I can ask about the self haul though. The only problem so far with Hildrup is that they are giving me a Jan 1-5 delivery drop which my husband is not happy about so going to call Bekins to see if their drop is better. My husband does not 'get' that other loads are picked...

Re: Moving from NC to Long Island NY

Yes had ABC in today and should get an estimate early next week. Hildrup was estimating 1200 cube sq ft/ 8450 lb Bekins was estimating 1043 cube sq ft /7300lb All three have provided full value replacement with $0 deductible. Just waiting on ABC. ABC did our last move so they may still have the orig...

Re: Moving from NC to Long Island NY

I would hope it is comparing apples to apples. Hildrup was a name I got from here as well as Bekins from the state list posted on this site. The only melon may be the moving company that is local to here but they did a great job moving us here so I thought we would see what they have for a quote.

Hildrup quoted $5600 (self pack) and $7200 (full pack).

One more Thursday and hopefully decision time shortly thereafter!

Re: Gentle Giant requesting a Deposit??

I recommended a MA firm as I did get an in-home estimate moving within MA (never knew if they did interstate as that was not our move), was very pleased with them and figured it might be worth a phone call. I haven't had any help on my posted question so figured throw another name out there. Worst c...

Re: Gentle Giant requesting a Deposit??

Another MA mover we used with success (within MA so not sure if they go out of state) is Death Wish Piano Movers.

Moving from NC to Long Island NY

Moving somewhere between Dec 15-31. 3 bedroom house. So far have on my list - United, Allied, North American, Coastal Carrier, Bekins. Any others I might have missed? I haven't thought about ABF (if I keep the move under 10k it is paid for by company moving us) - but I am nervous as they are freight...

No way! They have to do an On site inspection. How will they know what you have?!

Re: Gentle Giant requesting a Deposit??

I used Gentle Giant about 6 years ago with a move from MA to NYC. Did not give any deposit. Absolutely do not give a deposit! They are good (we had a very good crew). But as other poster said this smells funny - might be worth asking about the deposit (why).

Re: NYC to Philadelphia move

The more I think about the tipping, the more they are off the list. I did contact Big Apple Movers and I'm strongly considering using them. Their price was similar to the company which referred to tipping.

Glad to see I wasn't losing my mind about not using that company.
