Re: Report on Boston->Seattle move

Diane, the name of the company is Auto Driveaway, but they do both carrier transport and driving your car themselves. Our car was transported by carrier (they brokered it to Coast to Coast). Cost was $1250, including insurance.

Interesting on the "Option C" issue - I will look into this further.

Report on Boston->Seattle move

We ended up going with Humboldt Storage and Moving (United agent) for our HHG and Auto Driveaway for our car (both of Canton, MA). Packing was extremely smooth, although we're still looking for a few things - some of the box labeling was a little idiosyncratic. Still the packers ("the Beech family")...

Re: Recommendations-NYC to Hoboken/Piano Question

There is an exemption to interstate laws for a twenty mile area surrounding New York City, as well as all of Morris county NJ. This means that legally any move which falls into this category will be treated as an intrastate move. What I don't know is what determines which state consumer protection ...

Re: Recommendations-NYC to Hoboken/Piano Question

Hi there- Looking for a reliable mover to go from NYC to Hoboken-- it's a 20 minute drive but technically interstate (does that matter?) No, it doesn't matter. There are different rules for what's known as the New York metropolitan area--it forms a big circle around Manhattan and isn't really regar...

Re: piano movers suggestions?

You may want to call a local piano store and ask if they have recommendations.

Re: Has anyone used American Moveaid?

Just checked the website, most words are spelled wrong. Does anyone feel you can trust a company with your move, that cant spell? While I agree with both the sentiment and the observation, I am troubled by the fact that your own post contains both grammatical errors and a misspelling. Please tell m...

Re: Need help, SMALL move cross country

How big is your car? Can it tow a trailer? If so, you might want to look into seeing if you can hire a student to drive it cross-country with your belongings. If it's someone who wants to go home for a school vacation or whatever, you might be able to get them to do it in exchange for a return ticke...

Re: Auto Transporters

Any chance this thread could be made sticky, since the question comes up pretty frequently, and it seems to have a good summary? [ Update by Diane in 10/06 - I just noticed that E. Nugent's car was hauled by Coast to Coast Auto Transport , a carrier in Idaho with several good reviews here - m I over...

I forwarded you the estimate. The address that they use in their emails is 2759 Delk Road, Suite 2170, Marietta, GA 30067, if you want to check for vans there.

Diane wrote:Those questions were written by Mike, posting as "goingBackToCali" - I just sent him a PM to thank him. He moved with BE, by the way.

Thank you! I did edit the questions somewhat based on material found elsewhere at movingscam.com, adding questions about packing and about our car.

Re: Boston -> Seattle move - advice wanted

Does "linehaul" mean the amount that we're actually paying? That is, if we had a GNTE based on a lighter weight, but the weight ticket shows a heavier weight, does the driver get paid based on what we're paying, rather than the weight ticket? I assume so, from what you said earlier, but I just wante...

Re: Boston -> Seattle move - advice wanted

I certainly would want to get paid for the actual work I had to do - I just didn't know that the driver's pay depended on the size of the load. I guess I just assumed that they were hourly. It's good to know these things!

Re: Boston -> Seattle move - advice wanted

Just talked to my husband, and discovered that I have wronged the Graebel guy - it was actually 9000 pounds, not 6000. Still off Michael's estimate, but not enormously so. Humboldt has come and gone - they estimated 11,600 pounds, and quoted $9000 for the move, or $10,200 including packing. (Inciden...

Can you explain how the driver's compensation is affected by the bad estimation?

Re: Boston -> Seattle move - advice wanted

Yes, both companies were in-home estimates. I don't have the paperwork here with me at work, and I don't remember if there were inventories attached to either of them. I can probably pretty accurately list all our furniture and stuff, though - see below. I just talked to the Graebel rep, and he said...
