Re: local movers in LA; to crate or not to crate-

Thanks, For our company, since we make the packers and movers share liability(or at least their boss), the liability pendulum has swung to the point where they largely won't take them unless they are crated, anyway. I was trying to get a feel for the general state of things in the LA market, as down...

local movers in LA; to crate or not to crate-

Hi all, I'd like to hear from any movers in the Orange county/ LA county area on their standard procedure for moving thicker glass tops and marble tops on a local move. Are you crating or not? If you are, do you find yourself having to explain the higher cost against competitors that don't and if so...

Re: The Pro & Cons of PODS (Portable On Demand Storage) Type Storage an

I went to a pods warehouse the other day to see a shipment going to Hawaii. There were 6-700 pods and the one employee/warehouseman there told me that they were about half full. So that is the equivalent of about 900 of our vaults. One warehouseman, one giant, tricked out forklift; I think they are ...

Re: advise about complex NYC move?

Consider Suddath in Wayne, NJ- they just completed a job for me that was part to San Diego and part to Sicily and it was very complicated as well- they came through with shining colors and very reasonable rates to boot-- my suspicion is that their warehouse is as top notch as their service was for me-

Re: locals vs long distance

I'm not certain , but we just had the annual auction at another movers site and sent no more than 5 lots over there. However, there were probably 3-4 movers who pooled for this auction and there was a total of about 110 vaults. It was pretty big. We are trying our best to be diligent in the field to...

Re: Moving from Chicago to CA through a major university

FWIW, I've had some great service from AllChicagoland on oa and da business as well. And while I'm at it, I've been noticing a sharp uptick in all agencies willing to work with us on everything from rates to all service levels requested. Not that it was ever poor before, but agents seem to be bendin...

Re: Moving from Chicago to CA through a major university

The California company that the university refers you to has a much larger incentive to keep you happy throughout the entire move, fwiw-

Re: moving across country from nj to az

One possible downside to storing at origin- possible price increase in the long distance move due to fuel surcharge or tariff increase- probably won't be much, but you never know in today's crazy economy. The price they quote for the long distance move is usally good for 60-120 days only. If you rea...

Re: Moving Costs in this Economy - Moving locally in Seattle and need advic

Call the Bekins person and ask them if they'll move the plasma in a "speedpack" or "PR" carton for your short move. It is a piece of office moving equipment and Bekins has a bunch of them. It is basically a big cardboard tub that will keep the tv upright and hopefully they won't charge anything for ...

Re: Anyone familiar with Whaley's Enterprises in San Diego??

Robert Whaley has been in the business of selling packing material and doing packing for many years. I believe that he charges by the hour for packing but I don't know how much. He has some very good rates for packing material.

Re: First Quarter Volume

December was the worst month I've had in 15 years and thankfully Jan and Feb picked up in terms of appts appreciably- However, my closing ratio is down a chunk and I believe the culprit right now MIGHT have something to do with our rates . There seems to be a nervous feeling in the air amongst my co...

Re: +++What should I do now?

I would use a 6.5 cubic ft microwave/tv carton and all the padding you can jam in the box. don't forget to back up the drive just in case. The up side to UPS is their insurance will pay off like a slot machine but the down side is that the handling can be extremely tough on fragile items. Even bette...
