Re: My moving horror story

The main reason we went with the "cheaper" estimate was because we didn't feel that because the "company" was footing the bill for the move, it gave us license to just spend whatever amount it took to make the move. We felt it our responsibility to shop around and try to save the "company" as much ...

Re: My moving horror story

my question is, why, if your wife's company was paying the bill, and having past experience with United Van Lines, did you go with a unproven company with a low ball estimate?

Re: Armstrong Relocation - LA

Hmmm...I am not sure Diane. We are the largest UVL agent in the system (been that way for over 20 years.) I think at this point there are 22 Armstrong agents nationwide. Atlanta, Baton Rouge, Birmingham, Charlotte, Chattanooga, Chicago, Cleveland/Akron, Dallas, Houston, Huntsville, Jackson, Knoxvill...

Re: Armstrong Relocation - LA

Well, I wouldnt say 100%. A shipment headed to North Dakota or a small shipment might be shipped by another United agent.

I think the statistic is more like 97.6% of Armstrong booked shipments are hauled by Armstrong drivers, which is high regardless.

Re: Armstrong Relocation - LA

The agent in New Orleans is relatively new, its Post-Katrina. (I work for Armstrong so I may be a little biased) Most of the agents in the great New Orleans area were destroyed or closed shop due to the lack of business after Katrina. Re: a silly question???

99% of the time the driver will be the same at both origin and destination.

The helpers are usually hired at the local agent and will be different in each city.

Ask the driver if the guys ride with him or if he rides alone.

Good luck

Re: Feedback on Humboldt move (Boston to California)

just a few comments.. Im sure the $700 for the shuttle was before discount ($700 is way too high), not that that justifys the cost. If the driver didnt make it in time, than that crew was there to "G-11" the shipment and they charged you a shuttle to offset the cost, which I would fight if I were yo...

Re: Something B I G broken by moving company!!!

full replacement coverage doesnt cover sets. or at least at UVL it doesnt. im pretty sure thats the rule for every place. for example. if a chair was broken and you had 3 identical chairs that made a 4 chair set they wont buy you 4 new chairs. you either get a like chair, the money for a like chair ...

Pat, that reminds me of my favorite movie, You've got Mail. I think it is so great that you both live in the same city. Long distance relationships are very hard.
