Re: My local move with Flatrate Moving in NYC

Hi Diane, thanks for adding my review to the superlist. The Big John's quote was high partly because they didn't know how much we would end up moving ourselves. I told the estimator that we had already reserved a truck and were planning on taking over some of the items ourselves. He said overall tha...

My local move with Flatrate Moving in NYC

I moved a couple of weeks ago and ended up using Flatrate Moving, mostly because I had trouble finding anyone else available who had mostly positive reviews. I thought I'd post my experience here as most of the other reviews I've seen here have been third party and short. First a little background f...

Decent Experience with Fair Price Moves

Just wanted to report back that I had an OK experience with Fair Price Moves on a recent pick-up and delivery of 3 large kitchen appliances. I had gotten 3 estimates to pick up the appliances in upper Westchester County and deliver to Brooklyn. Two estimates were between $500-$650, the third was fro...

Re: How Did I Do?

Thanks. I just saw the sticky for Shea and called and left a message. Hopefully they can get back to me tomorrow and can come and give me an estimate. It looks like they are located just a few blocks from me.

Re: How Did I Do?

I just had two estimates today for my local NYC move (Queens to Brooklyn, only about 3 miles from each other). The estimates were both for 7 hours and 4 men. I have estimates from Big John and Flat Rate, both of which have mostly good reviews on this site. Big John is estimating 4 hours loading, an ...

Re: Having used appliances picked up and delivered?

I've gone ahead and scheduled with Fair Price Moves for next Wednesday. I'll let everyone know what type of experience I have with them. So far everything has seemed pretty OK. I didn't know truck rentals were so expensive back east. even a small Uhaul truck in Calif will go for about $29 daily plus...

Re: Having used appliances picked up and delivered?

Why don't you rent a UHaul or Penske truck and pick them up yourself? It would probably be cheaper. I'd like to, but I can't really afford to take a full day off from work. Renting a truck would be somewhere between $150-$200 I think (that's what I paid last year at this time for my move) and the d...

Re: Having used appliances picked up and delivered?

Most places that sell appliances will normally deliver within a 30 - 50 mile radius for a charge that is usually lower than what you've been quoted. Even if they don't deliver directly, they have numbers of outside contractors that might deliver. This is true, but I'm getting all 3 appliances for $...

*Having used appliances picked up and delivered?

We're renting a new place soon and need to buy appliances for it. I'm trying to get a good idea of what is a reasonable rate to have someone drive from NYC out to Long Island or West Chester pickup a refrigerator, dishwasher, and stove and have it delivered to Brooklyn. There are no stairs involved ...

Re: Parking in NYC question

Thanks, I hope that there is little chance of a ticket, since the driver will be with the truck at all times. I had some contact with parking enforcement earlier this week, and it seems at the very least they would give you the option to move the vehicle rather than get a ticket. I am just a little ...

Re: Parking in NYC question

Hi - if the workers have to carry individual items to your front door or inside the residence rather than just dropping the boxes on the street, then yes, I would say that you should tip them more than you would otherwise. The amount depends on whether additional cost for that service is already bu...
