Right but no valuation or damage protection on the above option. If a mover stores it, you have protection from that first pick up until ultimate delivery -- as long as you don't hire a different company at some stage of the move.

Re: How to execute an open-ended move with storage? (and on finding ourselv

I would tour any facility you consider. YOu want to see the warehouse and observe the trucks, equipment, employees and know you can trust them. As for feeling like they will ransom your goods upon delivery, there are countless of reputable, long term moving companies. They wouldn't be in business if...

Re: AQMS Affordable Quality Moving Mayflower Santa Clarita, CA

Was your original contract a Guaranteed Not to Exceed? Is the only difference on the weight? If they gave a non-binding estimate, they are allowed to collect based on the actual weight and services rendered. I'm not sure if Mayflower has pricing restrictions in August, you mentioned the earlier movi...

Re: Canceling a move

I would contact the CMSA, www.thecmsa.org for advice. They should be able to refer you to a lawyer in California who can assist in the process.

Re: North American Van Lines: delayed delivery claims?

Normally the reimbursement is for hotel cost for what you spent, supported by receipts. It isn't a partial refund for services rendered.

It does have to be over 3500 lbs, as Lee mentioned.

Re: AQMS Affordable Quality Moving Mayflower Santa Clarita, CA

Welcome to the Lets Make A Deal environment of pricing in Southern California! 30 Days free SIT used to be the norm, but evidently AQMS is taking that up a notch. I'm guessing your other bid is from Speedwell. Doesn't hurt to tell them what AQMS offered and go from there. Archie - Movers here are do...

Re: Budget Express Moving & Storage, Inc. Lancaster, CA

FYI - it isn't really effective to get quotes from multiple agents of the same van line. You mentioned Farley Brothers and Beverly Hills Transfer. They are both Allied. Then also Andy's Transfer is a North American Agent, plus you mentioned North American. My suggestion would be to get three quotes,...

Re: Budget Express Moving & Storage, Inc. Lancaster, CA

Have you gotten quotes from other companies? I would look for a van line agent. Pretty sure there is a Mayflower agency in Santa Clarita that would service Lancaster.

Re: Does anyone have comments about Lightning Van Lines?

Lightning must have just started a big internet campaign because we've run up against them TWICE in the last week.

Their driver out of service rating is enough to discourage me, plus not doing an in home estimate.

This is confidential information. If you don't mind, I'm sorry, but I don't think it's appropriate to publicly post salesmen's names and their booking commissions. I really feel the above post should be edited to remove salesmen and agency names. Congrats to you SmatWilly! That is definitely somethi...

Re: LA to BOS move

Can you review the line items of the estimates to see where they are off? Everyone can certainly have a bad day on the job, so giving a GNTE gives you the actual price at the end of the move. I don't see how that's blatantly dishonest, perhaps the estimator went high on certain items or was careless...

I don't think so Farrah. They still aren't licensed.

Craig's List strikes again. When I googled the name, I got two hits. One was their listing on Craig's List, the other was a bad review on YellowPages.com. When I did it on Yahoo, I also got the CMSA article on the cease and desist order.

Re: "The Moving Guys", San Diego, CA - VERY Disreputable

Oh nice, they have a cease and desist from the CPUC:

That should help you get these guys nailed! Their phones will be turned off once you report them for performing moving services.
