Re: Self storage auctions

We used to have those auctions maybe once a year and the goods auctioned in our warehouse related to people who either abandoned the goods and stopped paying the storage voluntarily, or for corporate clients who no longer wanted the items in their possession. It's a pretty drawn out process if done ...

Re: Don't know what to do!

Insofar as choosing a mover, don't limit yourself to Ontario; though some of the majors have locations out there because rent is cheap. Most of the majors have locations in Corona as well, and for a large load - they obviously would battle a shot up the 15 to get to you. Between Ontario and Corona, ...

Re: BEWARE

The only way to stop companies like OCO and Apollo is to hit them where it hurt them most, THEIR POCKETBOOK. That's true, but it starts by not contracting with them in the first place so that they don't get your money; that sort of thing keeps them in business. Insofar as enforcement, there are onl...

Re: What should you always pack and move yourself?

I would also add the following: Jewelry and cash should not be moved by movers because contractually they are not responsible if the items are lost. In fact, such verbage is put in big bold letters on many pages of the estimate, bill of lading, and many other documents. I once had a woman who claime...

Re: Binding Estimate with a Weight Allowance

Add me to the list of those who not only believe it a bad idea but not a very ethical action at all. Those who come to your house are taking the time to get the job done right. Those who do the deal by phone...aren't.

Re: moving from Wisconsin to Florida and need help choosing movers

Of the movers Rick suggested, Graebel's vanline HQ is in Wausau, WI, so if you're close to that location - that might be one of your choices. Choose another from the list Rick gave you and you'll be fine. Stay off the internet until you find a mover you like and then research them out. And yeah, you...

Re: Beware--Beverly Hills Transfer and Storage

I have to call baloney on this too. No way he could have walked into small claims court and win based on what he posted...no way. Even if the things he says are true...those things are not a breach of contract for the simple reason that none of the things he claims would be IN the contract. This per...

We are trying to find enough people for a class action lawsuit Some of us have been so damaged by this company we cant recover If your intent is to recover anything, a class action lawsuit is the worst means possible to achieve this. Even if you are to prevail and that is not an easy thing to do as...

Re: American Relocation???

This one is easy. Toss the quote you got. The only estimates you need to be working with is when someone comes to the house, sees the items to be moved, and provides a written quote. Anything other than this isn't worth the paper it's printed on. Stay off the internet for finding a mover; the intern...

Re: Florida takes legal action against unregistered moving companies

The FMCSA is right - except that they retroactively put the date back to the insurance policy is put in place. In the meanwhile, if someone were to spot-check while the insurance switch is in place, the consumer is going to see there's a lapse, until the FMCSA bureaucracy corrects itself. The FMCSA ...

Re: Florida takes legal action against unregistered moving companies

MM, I totally understand Mr. Stephens point of view on the insurance. I've been through the issue of changing cargo (and all of other) insurance policies and the normal practice of the FMCSA seems to be to reflect a carrier without the insurance necessary to be a carrier for some short period until ...

Unless you had someone come to your house and perform a survey, you need to throw away all of your work and start over. Once you have a couple of quotes from people who actually saw what it is you need to move, then come back and we can tell you about the companies you contacted. Anybody who gave yo...

Re: Nightmare Move with Movex.com!!

We had a contract, we paid them, they broke the contract-pretty simple I don't think so and not so simple. As a broker, they're obligated to provide you a 3rd party to perform the move. Their obligation ends there. That is all a broker does. The type of movers you would have wanted can only be prov...

Re: Swift Moving & Storage?

It's now 4 months later and you're still on this string? You're still dealing with the aftermath of the move? There are a lot of rookies (meaning they've never moved once in their life and aren't associated in any way with the industry) that come to this site, and get a good move because they do the...

Re: Delivery may come later than agreed upon

Funny that each time I talked to an Arpin employee, wailing---- "How can this happen? Why can't anyone tell me WHY my load isn't moving??? ----- this was never mentioned before!!! Have to agree with Rick 100%. More often than not, the person you're speaking to at the origin agent isn't going to spe...
