Re: Chicago to London move
Hi Noone, that's fairly accurate. They did know the final address when they sent the bill, so not really any excuse for it. That was just the straw that broke the camel's back in terms of being frustrated with them. The difference between responsiveness during sales and actual move was like complete...

Re: Chicago to London move
Sorry for double posting, but I wanted to separate out my thoughts about Abels from the Suddath followup. I just wanted to clarify a few things about my long review. Things go wrong in moves, it's almost unavoidable. I know that, and we planned for it (and it was nice that we had thought so carefull...

Re: Chicago to London move
I just wanted to follow up as we now have our stuff! Abels was our local agent in the UK. They have been really great since we were handed over to them. Their coordinator let us know what was happening with timing, when the ship arrived, when it cleared customs, and arranged a time for delivery soon...

Re: Reviews of Suddath Relocation Systems (South FL, Central FL, Jacksonvil
 I can't speak for the quality of their moving services but I had an estimate scheduled for this morning and they never showed up. When I called they had no idea. Doesn't speak well for their administrative capabilities. I strongly suspect that the administrative capacities are where th...

Re: Rainbow Movers in Franklin, MA
We really liked Rainbow for a local move, but went with another company for our Boston to Chicago move (Humboldt, who were great). Not happy with Suddath for our most recent international move, and wouldn't recommend.

Re: Reviews of Suddath Relocation Systems (South FL, Central FL, Jacksonvil
Hi, I just wanted to note that I posted a very long review about our move with Suddath here: http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=143275#143275 I don't want to quote the whole thing here unless the moderators think it's appropriate, but did want to make sure our experience was considered,...

Re: Chicago to London move
Hi Caitlin, coincidence of timing, I just wrote up a really long (sorry) moving report that I hope will be helpful to you in making your decision. And for anyone with questions, please do feel free to PM me with any questions, I get emailed when that happens, and am happy to answer wherever possible...

Re: Chicago to London move
Hi all, We ended up deciding to go with Suddath International, their price was pretty reasonable and they were the most responsive to our questions. I'll post all the detailed quote info soon but am currently away from home so don't have the info in front of me. I've been reading through the terms a...

Re: Packing Liquor Bottles for Excess Baggage/ Luggage
You need to research where you are going. Some countries will only allow 1 bottle to be brought into the country. Thanks for the reminder-- from what I understand, the only time alcohol isn't allowed is when it is illegal for religious or cultural reasons in that country. The limits you noted are w...

Re: Packing Liquor Bottles for Excess Baggage/ Luggage
Security will proabably evacuate the entire airport when they discover it. Ha, I hope not! We did this for a shorter domestic flight, with more bottles actually, and it was OK, but I wasn't sure whether that was just beginners luck on the packing technique! Good tip on the garbage bags, thanks.

Re: Chicago to London move
Keep in mind that we need to wait for quotes from overseas agents (especially for more remote locations - meaning someplace we don't ship multiple times monthly), as well as ocean freight. The only way I can get a quote out in 24 hours is if I already have the rates for origin, ocean, and destinati...

Packing Liquor Bottles for Excess Baggage/ Luggage
So that we don't bog down the rest of our international move with customs delays about our booze collection, we've decided to take a subset of the bottles over with us when we go flat hunting, as part of our luggage allowance for the flights. We're talking around 20 bottles. Here's my current plan: ...

Re: Chicago to London move
OK, thanks to Chris and Noone, that's actually very helpful information from both. We're both feeling a bit down at this point because it feels like pulling teeth just getting started with everyone, and this is supposed to be the SALES time, not the unresponsive time. One of the major companies had ...

Re: Chicago to London move
I re-read your note below and the long transit is due it being quoted and moving via consolidation service which means.. they wait to move your shipment till they have a container full of other shipment then they will move it. I would recommend not going that route unless you arent in a big hurry t...

Re: Chicago to London move
Thanks, Noone, those are good tips. I'll request a survey sheet, but have a follow-up question on the weight estimates. Is the end cost based on what they actually take with them, which gets weighed somewhere? I know on domestic moves, we've had a "guaranteed not to exceed" amount, but haven't seen ...
