Re: They want me to go on TV next week,

Make sure they get your company name / website correct...and think about what you will say and REHEARSE IT beforehand. I'm a previous Toast Master. I spent many many years in sales and presenting to large groups of people. My TV interview was a whole 'nother ball of wax. It was filmed in a huge, bla...

Re: Moving antiques and art

Lee gave some great advice. Appraisals are key too. Good one. Regarding existing crates, they would be ok provided they are visibly undamaged and built well. I would still check with the individual company to see how they would handle it. I know with cartons most carriers won't repack used cartons b...

Re: Moving antiques and art

Make sure your large stone, ceramic, glass, or uber delicate art is crated. Also, large, original oils too. That's crated in wood, not just boxed. What actually must be crated is going to be up to the company that hauls it as they will be the ones that must pay for damage and if it's a $25,000 + pie...

Re: Wanting to move from LA using ABF containers.......

Personally, I wouldn't base my move on an off the cuff comment by one driver that flies in the face of the company bylaw.

Re: Wanting to move from LA using ABF containers.......

^^ your setting yourself up for problems. A one hour window for all the parties to line up, including yourself. Hmm...

I'd have to say work out your plan differently. If even one cog falls out of place you're going to be screwed.

Good luck.

That still doesn't properly address the rolloff bins and other seamingly immovable equipment. Maybe it's not legal but tolerated :)

Re: Wanting to move from LA using ABF containers.......

That's interesting >> You can have a 9 yard bin dropped in front of your house; >> You can have a large crane, and other construction equipment too; >> You can have an overseas container on a truck chassis, but no pods or abf? The ones that I've seen then must have been stagged illegally. Is that an...

Re: Did we know about this?

I wouldn't necessarily encourage people to not pay the unlicensed gorillas that just hauled 4 tons of your stuff up stairs. Things might get a little dicey. I've worked with some scary mofo's in my time... I equate many of these feel good consumer laws to a no smoking sign in jail...you're in jail b...

Re: seasonal cost

Just don't get confused between seasonal rates and peak rates - they are different. The rates definately go up in summer - on top of that auto increase, there is a premium charge like lee stated. That is for ultra full times as he mentioned. These are two independent ideas. 1) Summer rates (general ...

Re: seasonal cost

yes - it is all about the supply and demand. less truck space + more people moving == more expensive truck space. plus the fuel surcharge usually goes up to boot becuase of special summer blends and because opec are a bunch of jerks (to be very technical about it)
