Re: In which area should I look for movers - origination or destination?

If you are looking at one of the "bigs" you might just find one (or two) that have offices in both your origin and destination location - depending on the cities of your start and finish. Double bonus!

Re: Question about scammers

My guess - cash talks. These scammers ask for cash or prepayment, right? They can pay cash that is not traceable whereas reputable movers pay through a payroll department, withhold taxes, require documentation of employment eligibility, etc.

Re: Payment for movers.

I am still stuck on paying at origin as opposed to delivery. Asking to be paid before service is provided is like having a restaurant bring you the bill before the food and expect to be paid before you eat. That's a red flag to me almost as much as asking for cash as the form of payment.

Re: Capital City Movers/Stevens Van Lines in Sacramento CA denied our claim

Fred, I'm just telling you what the claims folks at each company for whom I have worked in the past. Generally they put the onus on the customer to get a written statement from a TV repair firm stating that it is transit related and HOW it is transit related. Because mechanical condition is excluded...

Re: Amazon boxes for moving?

The more 'standard' size boxes you can use the better - it will be easier for a driver to load a truck with 1.5's, 3.0's, 4.5's and 6.0's - which probaly means little to you - but LOTS to a driver. The boxes you have been collecting are manufactured to fit certain things. You can buy moving boxes re...

Re: Oasis Moving and Storage (Las Vegas)

You are entitled to see the truck being weighed. If you ask prior to delivery they must inform you of the location of the scales nearest your delivery location and allow you to meet the truck there and watch it being weighed before the shipment is unloaded, and again after your shipment has been unl...

Re: Capital City Movers/Stevens Van Lines in Sacramento CA denied our claim

If you have the TV inspected by a reputable electronics repair company which states that the damage was "transit related" then it should be covered if you have purchased full value protection, even if there is no damage to the exterior of the television. Was your TV a flat screen and/or plasma? Did ...

Re: Horrible American Knights (us-1 Vanlines) move....is this your box???

Shiner, we miss you in Houston already. Wish I had known you were moving, I've been known to show up when a MS "friend" is loading out of my area just to check out the movers and poke around asking questions. That's really nice of you to post that you have someone's memories - I hope you are able to...

Re: College Student in a Jam

NYC has some pretty tricky truck regs that may not allow you to hire just one guy to help. Where are you moving TO? Farrah is 100% right, for under $1,000 you won't find storage from an above-board moving & storage company. Self storage of any kind or size for $60/month in the NYC area would fri...

Re: Complaint help vs United/Dearman from Mansfield Ohio

Archie, Dearman wouldn't be sending $1800 back. First of all there is a $250 deductible. Secondly, carrier's actually use the funds they receive from the purchase of valuation to purchase valuation coverage, at least that's what is supposed to happen so that customers know that the policy is in plac...

If you are not advertising your own company then you are plagiarising someone's website. Either way - please don't do that.

Re: Complaint help vs United/Dearman from Mansfield Ohio

Property damage is separate from a cargo claim. Dearman might participate in AMSA's arbitration program. I believe each side pays a certain amount to participate and the winner receives their contribution back as well as the award. that is my recommendation to you. 7-8 weeks for a bike in the winter...
