Re: **Move Review-NC to PA
Definitely want to make clear both Excel & Allied did a great job. We did have weird constraints due to the building we moved into & it is the busiest time of the year for moves (not to mention our relatively tiny shipment) but Excel (the sales agent & coordinator) were easy to get in to...

Re: **Move Review-NC to PA
He didn't recommend a self-move; we asked him how difficult it would be if we self-moved on our own within the city when we leave the building. Honestly, we'll most likely use Allied for any other inter-state moves we have to do (my husband's career necessitates moving for a while) because of the gr...

Re: **Move Review-NC to PA
Is the All American you speak of Mayflower? Yes - Mayflower. The sales agent was very nice and knowledgeable so it was a tough call. I know I had read on here they were pricier than Excel usually but in this case, their price/lb worked out to less than Excel. However they estimated 3100 lbs whereas...

Move Review-NC to PA
For our 1 bedroom move, we decided to go with Excel (Allied) due to the fact that they were a major brand line, easy to get in touch with, and could promise a delivery date one week ahead of the move (as per our sales agent). We were considering All American as well but they estimated a higher weigh...

Re: Excel/Allied Van Lines - NC to NJ
Glad to hear it went well. We decided on using Excel too. I will post a review here when it happens.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Is it worth it to get Insurance?
Thanks PMueller. I think we will go with the insurance just for peace of mind. Our furniture is fairly new and definitely worth more than .60/lb. Farrah, the contract doesn't specifically say only the furniture and TV is covered. However, it does say something to the effect that they are not liable ...

Is it worth it to get Insurance?
Since we're self-packing, I'm not sure if it's worth it to pay for the insurance. The only items we could claim on would be the furniture and the TV since they will be packing and handling that. The furniture for our 1 bedroom apartment probably cost around 6,000. The lowest amount of insurance cove...

Charging for Straight Truck?
I asked this question in another post but thought I should create a new one for this. I know Diane questioned being charged for a straight truck and Michael said the charge would not be for the truck but for the shuttle needed BUT my quote from Excel has this wording: The miscellaneous charge of $30...

Re: Importance of In-Home Estimate?
I was just looking at the Excel quote again and saw this: The miscellaneous charge of $300 is for guaranteeing a straight truck. We will do this to avoid needing a shuttle at either end, both of which would cost almost $400. So it doesn't look like they plan to use a shuttle at all but they are stil...

Re: *Moving from NC to NJ - What Moving Companies??
That's interesting about Truckin. They are actually the lowest quote but they also gave us a the lowest weight estimate. The fact that it took them a full week to give us a quote bothers me. One big plus they have is they can give an exact delivery date which is helpful in our case but we don't want...

Great, Rene. Good luck! We are not moving until end of June so your review of Excel will be very helpful. Thanks.

Re: Importance of In-Home Estimate?
Maybe the All American agent just mistakenly called it a straight truck on my quote? It clearly says charge for straight truck $386.

Re: Importance of In-Home Estimate?
I just looked at my Excel quote and this is the terminology they used for GRR - it says nothing about moving dates... Guaranteed Rate Reduction: If actual weight is less than estimated weight of 2,600 lbs., the GPP price will be reduced by $ 20.98 per cwt for the difference between actual and estima...

Re: Importance of In-Home Estimate?
Since we're packing everything but furniture, I'm not sure if it's worth it to get the insurance since they won't be liable for what we've packed.

Re: Importance of In-Home Estimate?
Excel also thinks we will need one here in NC so they've added it in for both pick-up and delivery. Here are the quotes I've gotten. The weights are all different!! Excel Moving lbs est. 2,600 base $1,675.00 straight truck $300.00 insurance (15,000 - $0 ded) $190.00 Total - $2,165.00 Total - if a we...
