Re: Excel/Allied Van Lines - NC to NJ

Thanks, Michael. Dave just sent me an email and this is what he said: "We do have liability on a move like yours where we packed (interstate into self-storage) under the following conditions. For up to 9 months after the move, we accept liability on packing damage providing the boxes have not been m...

Re: Excel/Allied Van Lines - NC to NJ

Thanks for explaining that to me. I didn't know that and, no, he didn't put that in writing. I'll call Allied first thing in the morning and see what they say. I HOPE nothing is damaged in those boxes. But, you're right...it would be hard to define who is at fault when I go back to the unit to reloa...

Re: Can a 2 bed. apt. be loaded in 2 hours in Chicago?

I had a large 2 BR apt. and there were only 2 movers that had to wrap the furniture and load it on the truck. It took them 6 hrs. (weight came in @ around 5300 lbs.).....actual time was probably 5-1/2 hrs because I got them lunch and we sat down and ate Chinese food! It may be 'heavy' on the tummy, ...

Re: Excel/Allied Van Lines - NC to NJ

When I asked Jason about it, he said that you only have to note damage to any furniture at the time it's put into self-storage. The cartons that were packed, you have at least 90 days. I had questioned that because I didn't think they would expect me to open every box and unwrap the contents to insp...

Excel/Allied Van Lines - NC to NJ

Just wanted to let you know my move went so smoothly. I moved from NC to NJ and used Excel. The "packers" (Randy & Freddy) came on Monday, as promised. The driver (Jason) and another guy (Gary) came on Tuesday to load the truck. All of them were very nice and knew what they were doing. Jason tol...

Re: BEWARE: Greenway Van Lines & Nationwide Relocators

Mandy, you are so full of it. You REFUSED to move me? BS! That's why your office kept on calling me every day to see if I was going to use your company! I TOLD your people I DID NOT want to go with you as you are deceitful and misleading. I told your people that you have the certified AMSA movers "s...

Re: *Moving from NC to NJ - What Moving Companies??

I forgot to mention, Movin' Truckers' rate for just packing up my stuff was a lot more than anyone else was charging ($1,600 just for the packing!). Other quotes I had gotten ranged from $725.50 - 993.13. They do, however, have an excellent record w/BBB, but I just found them too expensive for me. A...

Re: Moving from NC to NJ - What Moving Companies??

Auspicious, good luck with your move as well. I spoke to Truckin' Movers this afternoon but they are VERY expensive. They can deliver your goods several way: Container shipment (cardboard containers w/bands around them), crate packaging, shipping re freight carrier, and with their trucks. Since they...

Re: Moving from NC to NJ - What Moving Companies??

Thanks to everyone for your help (esp. Michael!)...Just wanted to let you know I signed up w/Dave @ Excel. I took the $250 deductible insurance with FVP. The total came to $3,798.60 and breaks down as follows: Transportation (6,300 lbs.) * $2,556.35 Insurance 277.00 Packing 848.00 Drop-Off @ Storage...

Re: Importance of In-Home Estimate?

Michael, thanks again for straightening everything w/Dave. One thing, though (not that it matters now) but Dave had already done the inventory and was sitting on my couch when he told me it was 5,000 lbs., not over the phone. At any rate, it's all good now. He's going to add the GRR to the TPP so it...

Re: What is a Tariff 400 104 H?

Thanks, Diane! I just talked to Michael and he called Dave and explained what GRR really is (you and Auspicious are right about it meaning it's like GNTE w/the TPG). Since Dave doesn't usually handle households, he wasn't clear on it. At any rate, Dave called back and apologized and is going to add ...

What is a Tariff 400 104 H?

Does anyone know what this tariff is? I've heard of 400M and 400N but not this one. Beltmann Group (North American) just sent me the estimate and on it was this tariff. thx.

Re: Importance of In-Home Estimate?

Diane, I DID talk to the agent, Dave from Excel, and that's the info he gave me when I questioned him about adding GRR to the TPG. And he's been in business for a long time so he should have known, don't you think?

Re: Importance of In-Home Estimate?

That's weird! Why would the agent tell me a different story when it DOES clearly mean that it's basically GNTE?? Thanks! I'll have to call back and find out what's going on and why he said something different.

Re: ALERT - avoid Transport Van Line(s) in FL

Man, they are sneaky and deceitful, aren't they! If I hadn't found this site, quite by accident, I never would have known what to look for and I probably WOULD have gone with TVL! The last "professioal" move I had done was 24 years ago and things like this didn't go on then. My other moves were with...
