Re: problem with scheduled delivery date-- any suggestions?

Well, I guess since no one answered me, my guess about a Saturday delivery was incorrect! Anyway, I did call a few people on the NASMM site...nothing doing. Two people told me that they are not available on that day. Another one told me that she can't take on such a small job in the busy season. Ano...

Re: problem with scheduled delivery date-- any suggestions?

One more thing-- the day in question is a Saturday. I believe I read somewhere that a company cannot make you unload on a weekend. Is that true?

Re: problem with scheduled delivery date-- any suggestions?

thank you for these suggestions. The truck has not yet been loaded, it is scheduled to load next Monday morning.
I would be open to hiring someone to recieve the shipment for us, but I have no idea how to go about doing that. Where do I find such a person?

problem with scheduled delivery date-- any suggestions?

I am scheduled to move next week to the east coast. I have booked a very reputable (according to this site) moving company here in Chicago for my move. I was given a 10 day delivery window, and there is one day in that window that it is absolutely impossible for us to meet the delivery truck. As luc...

*My in-home estimates so far: Chicago to Baltimore

Update on our moving progress….. About 2 weeks ago, we finalized our plans to move from Chicago to Baltimore. I am work freelance in the publishing industry (hence my user name! ) and my husband is going for an advanced degree – a one year program. So, we’re on a budget—we don’t have any company at ...

Re: Can a 2 bed. apt. be loaded in 2 hours in Chicago?

I hear that suggestion, but here's my hesitation---I would really prefer to have people who know what they are doing, in terms of loading and fitting everything into the ABF truck in the most space-efficient way (and least damage prone way). Honestly, we are almost ready to scrap the ABF idea -- it'...

Re: *Moving from Evanston, IL to New York City

Thanks for those tips. I spoke to the same Prager rep on the phone, and didn't get such a good feeling from him. He didn't seem too flexible about scheduling an estimate (afternoons only, which is tricky for oiur family because of my work schedule and my preschooler's napping schedule) and I guess h...

Re: Can a 2 bed. apt. be loaded in 2 hours in Chicago?

I also didn't think that Del's was licensed to do interstate moves. I originally called just for an estimate to load our stuff on to an ABF trailer. He told me that they are an agent for Steven's, and that they could also move us all the way there. When he said that, I assumed that theyt are license...

Re: Can a 2 bed. apt. be loaded in 2 hours in Chicago?

Yikes! this is not looking so cheap for us. . It looks like we could be paying close to $600 for loading (we have a few things that need to be taken apart as well, that we have NO IDEA how to do), including the extra time we're going to have to pay ABF. Del's movers (recommended from this site) is c...

Re: Can a 2 bed. apt. be loaded in 2 hours in Chicago?

thanks,- these kind of estimates really help us. Like I said, we are also going to get some quotes from full service movers, I have an appt. with Scott from Planes next week (recommended from other people on this site). I am guessing that even with a with a $500 loading/unloading charge, it will sti...

Re: Can a 2 bed. apt. be loaded in 2 hours in Chicago?

Thanks for these replies. I forgot to add that we live up two flights--that kind of makes a difference in the loading process. Hmmm, let me think "out loud" here. 4 movers is going to cost roughly $110 per hour, plus flat travel fee. So if I need them for (let's say) 3 hours, that's $330, plus $40, ...

Can a 2 bed. apt. be loaded in 2 hours in Chicago?

We are moving from Chicago to Baltimore this summer. I got a quote from ABF, and have been poking around here, so decided to get a quote from ABF. It looked very reasonable, but had this stipulation: “ ABF cannot leave an unattended trailer in the Chicago metro area. We must perform a "live load" wh...
