What are the "new federal requirements?"

Hi, all. My user name should actually be "movingtogaithersburg" because that's what we're doing! We moved up to the Milford, PA area mid-September of last year for my husband's employment, and are now moving back to Gaithersburg, MD on 3/3. We had such a good experience with Matthews Movers out of C...

Re: Get movers where I am moving from or to?

Glad your move went well with Mathew. But a side not and something we stress here all the time: The lowest estimate does not make the best move. Nor does the lowest estimate mean it will still be low in the end. Shopping on price alone is not the right thing to do. The fact that Matthews came in wi...

Re: Get movers where I am moving from or to?

I just had a VERY good experience with Matthew Moving out of Clarksburg, MD. Their price come in the lowest of the four estimates I received and Reggie (the driver) and his crew really did a terrific job moving us from MD to PA. I would highly recommend them.

Re: Help, trying NOT to freak out over packing, but...

Thanks everyone for all the helpful advice! I'm impatiently waiting for a callback from Jim at Matthews, I'm hoping they have some used boxes they can either outright give me or sell me at a discount. If he doesn't, I'll call some other places. No hits on Craigslist yet, but I'll keep trying. Any ad...

Re: Help, trying NOT to freak out over packing, but...

Thanks for the tips. If we get this rental, there will be enough room for all of our stuff. So, at least I won't have to worry about getting a storage unit and therefore having to figure out what boxes go to storage, and what ones go to the house. I am going to check w/ Matthew Mover about used boxe...

Help, trying NOT to freak out over packing, but...

We are due to move to NEPA from MD in about 11 days. Because of so many problems finding a rental, delays in getting the house painting completed, etc., we have only just begun to pack. Unfortunately, I feel totally overwhelmed. I read most of the posts in the packing sticky, but somehow, I actually...

Re: Please help me decide what mover to use!

Well, another rental fell through. The place was a dump! So, I now have no address to give my movers, whomever they might be.

How much of a price difference does a zip code change entail? It looks like we're going from 18337 to 18336...

Re: Please help me decide what mover to use!

I sent the following email to Jim at Matthew: Dear Jim: I am strongly leaning toward using Matthew for our move on 9/10. I just have a couple questions/clarifications: 1. Does your TPG quote include the packing, crating and extra stop at the storage unit that we had discussed? 2. You had mentioned t...

Re: Please help me decide what mover to use!

Also, I replied to Moyer & Sons' emailed estimate asking them to clarify some things. This was my response: "I spoke with Jason and he said he left you a message. However, here is a follow up. The total cost for your relocation, packing, and crating items, per our estimate of 8/22/07 is $4162.00...

Re: Please help me decide what mover to use!

Thanks, Diane, I will clarify whether or not the storage place stop is included. Actually, I think we are working to eliminate a drop off to storage at destination, but we will probably need a pickup at the storage unit across the street from my home (we rented it to stash the junk we need to hide f...

Re: Please help me decide what mover to use!

Ok, I guess I'm the "OP" Thanks for making that call and the info, Diane! It sounds like Matthews must self-haul our stuff, so they will be using one of their trucks (which I guess will NOT be a tractor-trailer). We are checking the location out for ourselves this weekend, but don't anticipate any u...

Any idea where can I find the FMCSA license for Matthew Moving? What exactly is a FMCSA license?

Please help me decide what mover to use!

For our move from MD to Milford, PA, I received four in-home estimates for our 3 BR, 2 ½ bath townhouse. We are packing everything ourselves except furniture, large living room TV, and some larger pictures and mirrors. We will be putting some items/boxes in a storage facility across the street. Here...

Re: I Have Not Even Moved Yet and Already It's Starting!

We are also moving from MD, but to NEPA, on 9/10/07. I actually met with Karl from Von Paris this morning at 9:30 a.m. for an estimate, and have someone from Matthews Movers coming later this afternoon. I met with Jason from Moyer & Sons yesterday, but have yet to receive his estimate (it was su...
