Re: Tiger's Move

Archie probably doesn't get very much sex either. I don't either, so I guess I'm not one to talk.

Re: Tiger's Move

Good point, South Florida is filled with scammers. Not just the moving industry either. Bernie Madoff's scam was pretty much out of Palm Beach. Some law firm in Ft. Lauderdale imploded recently after a trial lawyer ponzi sceme. Ironically, South Florida was ground zero of the mortgage crisis as well...

Re: Atlanta Movers for move to RI

I wouldn't even consider the one in Florida.

I'm not sure why you got estimates from three united van line agents, but all three are reputable companies.

Michael Jackson Move

Maybe Unigroup moved both Presidents of the United States, but Atlas is the mover of Michael Jackson. The Atlas truck is all over the news right now. I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing for Altas.

Re: NY Times: "Slump Creates Lack of Mobility for Americans"

Good Article! The numbers of the major van lines would support this, as the major van lines are reporting large drops in volume for 2008. Although the economy is bad for everyone, it is much worse in some places than others. Unemployment in Michigan and South Carolina is well over 10%, and unemploym...

Re: Surface Transportation Tariffs

I probably shouldn't touch this one. I will say, the new rules work a lot better for COD moves than corporate moves. With COD moves, you usually have several company's bid, so you don't have to understand the tarriffs, you can just compare the dollar amounts. Corporate moves do not work very well wh...

We all understood and agreed with your point, we just started talking about something different. It seems to happen a lot around here.

Re: Worried: Movers, Inc. not in Yellow Pages

The other issue, is the endorsements are in no way an advertising scam. These are all above average companies, and they have a large incentive to give visitors to this website the best service possible. Some movers, wouldn't want to be endorsed by this website. Every time you have a customer reffere...

Re: Attention all consumers, schedule 1 estimate at a time!!!

Movers do need to differentiate themselves. This has to be done at a high level, and I think it is in progress. As long as movers have similar generic names, work off very similar tarriffs, use the same discounts, have the same rules, deliver in the same time frame, have the exact same business mode...

Re: Worried: Movers, Inc. not in Yellow Pages

The most obvious argument, is that most people who offer advice are doing it for free. I'm not sure about the non industry moderators, but the rest of us don't receive a penny, and wouldn't recommend Moovers. I'm not certain the others receive money either, if so, it isn't very much. If you had post...

Re: Attention all consumers, schedule 1 estimate at a time!!!

There is something very wrong with somebody getting over 3 estimates. I have seen customers get 10 before. Do customers not realize the estimate that is free to them, is not cost free to the company? Why is it no longer considered unethical to screw a company? "Maybe if I get 10 estimates, I will wa...

Re: Checking in!

I work for a van line, and owned an independent moving company. I'm just a salesman, so I don't know much about how agents pay van lines etc. What I do know, is the difference between selling for a van line agent, verses an independent. With an individual consumer, you will have some advantage selli...

Re: Small Move from GA to MO. . . Any reputable small movers in SE?

It is approximately 568 miles from Atlanta to St. Louis. The company I work for could handle this move for about $1,500 with valuation and no packing. How could an independent company send a straight truck 1,136 miles, load and unload a small shipment, and offer full replacement valuation for less t...

Re: In the news

It's usually United trailers that I see, I guess because they have the most trailers. This is not an isolated incident, I bet there are hundreds of former van line trailers being hauled by sketchy movers throughout the country, that still have the van lines markings. Might need to do something about...

Re: In the news

The broker took a piece of the $1,975, then I guess Golan took another piece, the company which hauled it probably did it for about $1,000. I must also say, I have seen a lot of sketchy movers pulling the former trailers of large national van lines recently. I guess there are a lot of trailers on th...
