Re: "The Moving Guys", San Diego, CA - VERY Disreputable

I don't see their name in the alphabetical list as being licensed.

Where did you find them?

Re: southern california local move

Get a salesman to your home. It's hard to say over the phone if your move will take two days, until an actual estimate is done. Get two or three from the companies you mentioned, and then report back here. I'd go with Coast Valley, Merit and Atlantic for your quotes. If you want someone nearby, you ...

Contact the CMSA for a recommendation, www.thecmsa.org

Unfortunately we don't have many reviews of movers in your area, so a member company should be a good choice!

Re: Melrose Moving in Los Angeles, CA - Any bad/good experiences out there?

The have only been licensed since January of this year: m Some red flags, their location is an apartment and their phone number doesn't match up with the city they are supposedly located in. Their email is a GMAIL account, that seems like an unestablished company to me. They aren't listed in the LA ...

An NTE is required on all Intra California moves. As is an in home estimate. I would immediately eliminate ANYONE who did not come to your home for a quote. Here is the license for American Trusted Movers: m They have been licensed for ONE MONTH. Do not trust a carrier that new with your move.

Re: American Trusted Movers, North Star Moving or My American Movers???

Since you are moving within California, I would suggest you check out www.thecmsa.org

http://thecmsa.org/html/consumers/consumers.htm

You can also call their offices for recommendations and consumer advice.

Re: US Vanlines DOT 913954 and moving from storage unit

If your SIL had a good move with Gentle Giant, call them! They are a good, solid company and you have a personal recommendation to them. They are an agent for Atlas and do good work. You will have to accept a non-binding estimate on your job. No mover will guarantee the weight without being able to ...

DId any of the three companies come to your home? It's required to have a visual estimate to get an NTE in California.

Here is the SuperList:

Who are the three companies you are considering?

Re: www.moverreviews.com and user reviews in general

Diane, Yes, you have to be an A or B rated company to be highlighted. For that, you have to place a coupon on the site. I think it was $250 a month.

We did it for a year and never got a single call, let alone a move.

Re: www.moverreviews.com

My other issue with Angie's List is that they allow unlicensed movers to receive reviews, post coupons and promote themselves via the site. I documented several illegals there and sent it to them. They told me (at several levels of the company) that licensing is none of their concern - only customer...

Re: www.moverreviews.com

Also, when I did really try to push customers to post on Angie's List, they were turned off by having to join in order to do the online review. They can do the pamphlet review without joining, and we distributed all 50 of them. Not a single one was logged to our account. We stopped advertising there...

Re: www.moverreviews.com

Diane, When you join Angie's List, they give you pamplets to distribute to your customers to give you top reviews. It's self addressed, postage paid. So in theory, your driver stands there while your customer fills this out and then mails it in. However, I've seen some very unknown companies have TO...
