Re: Sterling vanlines California

I have several years of experience with Sterling, and also doubt they've held loads hostage. They had quite a bad run of PR due to a scammer with the same name. They have tried very hard to overcome that.

I honestly think you'll do fine and they are a well respected company.

Re: Moving from CA to IL

If you were happy with the move last year, contact that same mover again. I know your husband's company paid for it, but they still may give you a great deal.

Otherwise, in the desert, contact Merit United or Cardinal Moving and Storage. Also, Golden Eagle may come to your area.

Good luck!

Re: travel times

In CA under 100 miles, you are charged for loading, drive time times two (double drive time) and unloading time. You may also be charged a fuel charge. The fuel, when combined with the hourly rate, can not exceed the Maximum Rate Tariff as set down by the PUC. Did you receive a written estimate in a...

Re: Budget Van lines from LA

A BBB rating is NOT good enough. Find a mover with at least an A or AA rating.

Read the above article on How to FInd a Reputable Moving Company.

Brokers are NOT worth your time. You can get better pricing and service by dealing directly with a mover that will come to your home for a quote.

Re: Is this a good order for service (see attached) - thanks

If this was not an IN HOME estimate, nothing is binding. Also, it is based on cubic foot "cf". That is always the hallmark of a scammer. I would definitely find another mover, find someone to come to your home and give you a real quote. You'll either never see your things again, pay triple the price...

Re: One Mover Depot in Gardena is Unethical

I'd complain to the BBB too.

The CPUC may be able to help get some money back, and the BBB will cost them future business.

They are already a CC rating:

Pretty bad for a MEMBER of the BBB, so I'd complain to drive that even lower.

Re: Any advice on compensation for late delivery?

Van lines pay compensation for late deliveries for good public relations.

If you are dealing with borderline or dubious companies, they don't care about their image.

Re: Recommendations for mover near Ventura, CA?

Hilford and Gemini would be similar pricing. If you already got a quote from Hilford, I wouldn't bother re-scheduling with Gemini.

You can also try Sheelers Moving or NMS.

Here's a county listing of movers there:

Re: Be aware of Graebel Orlando...

Any accusation of theft at our company is replied to in the same manner. It is standard to call the police.

I also disagree that all movers use contractors. That is not true on local moving, many movers use actual employees.

Re: NorthStar Moving, Chatsworth, CA

I got a PM from Farrah, but thought I'd reply publicly too: No, that is a federal regulation, so not requried on in-state moves. However, we are required to issue a GNTE on EVERY move, even phone orders. Our employees have to spend a lot of time on the phone and get as much info as possible. We then...

That is a beautiful driveway! I definitely agree with Archie, you don't want the big truck on it. I would hate to see it get damaged already, and you should have many years in that home with a perfect driveway.

When did you expect the guys to sleep and rest? One day in between load and delivery is totally normal. Otherwise they would drive all night after working all day to load your goods, then unload exhausted. Plus, they should have given you an Agreement for Service at least 3 days before the move. It ...

Re: Graebel Van Lines vs. northAmerican Van Lines???

The only corporate owned facilities in the NAVL organization at the HVP/STI group. (Shipping of frieght, office furniture, new furniture, electronics, etc). No HHG's customers ever pass through those facilities, so how could a crime ring target COD customers?

What a tale!
