Topic title: Kudos to Broadway Express

Our move from DE to AZ was flawless from start to finish, and heartily recommend Broadway Express to others planning a U-Load, We-Drive move. The process of making the initial reservation was smooth and straightforward, and Krissy Brandt deserves credit for making herself available for questions, returning calls and emails very promptly, and providing all the information we needed. She managed the logistics of finding a truck and driver and scheduling our pick-up and delivery beautifully. Dion Wise, our driver, was also superb -- arrived right on time (even a bit early) on both ends, was extremely helpful in loading the truck to take advantage of every cubic foot we'd reserved and in unloading quickly at delivery. He was friendly, professional, and got all my father's "stuff" delivered to his new home with no damage of any kind. His provision of straps and blankets (including his ability to wrap even antique furniture quickly and well) meant that we did not have to buy rope or rent blankets ourselves. The entire experience was terrific!

My only suggestion for BE would be to more clearly advertise the availability of its smaller 28-ft straight trucks, not just the huge semis featured on the BE website. In many locations, smaller trucks are the only ones that can access a customer's property, and I suggest asking about this explicitly if you are one of those folks.

Move: Indiana to Boston
Cost: $1640 for unknown number of feet
Driver: Shannon
Shipped a car: no

We moved from Indiana to Boston recently with Broadway Express. We were very satisfied with the move and with BE. Cost-1640. Our friends helped us load and unload. Date of move-04/28/09. Booked directly.
We were very circumspect initially about the move and after reading the reviews here decided to go with BE. The main reason was live loading and unloading since we were not sure about the parking in Boston.

Once we met the driver all our hesitation and nervousness was gone.
The driver's name was Shannon. Although we finally did not need his help, he had agreed to help us for a reasonable price of 35$. He was on time both times and was always reachable by phone and very courteous. We had already finished packing up by the time he came. He gave us tips on how to load and pack stuff which was critical to good and tight loading. I broke the leg of a dining table while loading but the driver was nice enough to fix it when we unloaded. The other nice thing was that I had requested for a small truck and they were able to provide us with a small truck. It made parking at both the places so easy.

Everything arrived safely and timely. The driver kept us updated and let us know 24hrs beforehand about the arrival time. He wanted to come at 10:00 in the morning and we wanted him to come at 2:00. After some thinking he decided to work with us and came at 2:00 which worked great for us. My only complaint probably is that the people at the desk could be more prompt about contacting back.

We would definitely recommend them.

Move: New York City to the California-Mexico border
Cost: Unknown for 40 feet
Driver: Anthony
Shipped a car: Unknown

I tripped up while in Baja for a wedding and fell in love with a wonderful Mexican man. I never ever thought I'd end up moving to Mexico if you'd ask me about all the places in the world where I might live, but after pricing out our options of getting him to NY versus our living in Baja, the real estate in Mexico won out! Buying a house was the easy part. An international move can almost make you lose your sanity.

First of all, I had to get my visa. While we plan on getting married, the easiest first step was to get a temporary FM-3 visa. We ended up paying a great attorney in Los Cabos to get us through the process without one hassle. This was easier than getting it in NY, believe me.

With visa in hand, I then set to working out details of the move, calling over 20 moving companies trying to figure out the best way to get an incredbile amount of household goods across the border. I owned a 5 bedroom house at one point and had just shut down a retail business full of gorgeous antique furniture and figured there was no way to rebuy all this stuff for the same price of moving it. I originally set a budget of $10k for the entire move.

After a gazillion phone calls, reality began to set in. No way for me to do this move without packing myself if I wanted to stay in budget. I priced out a complete door to door move via truck and container with various movers listed on websites. No one made me feel completely comfortable in handling my things door to door...even with extravagant pricing of $16k upward. When these supposed "international" movers didn't even know what an FM-3 was or a "menaje de casa" I knew I had to cross them off my list.

I decided to pack and load myself and have a truck meet up with a Mexican mover near the border. I found info about Broadway Express on this site, and when one of movers I got a quote from said that even he used them sometimes, I figured they were worth checking into. Broadway Express won my trust immediatley with Diana Nuxoll's shockingly great attitude on the phone after so many goofballs I had talked to elsewhere. Initially I reserved 28 linear feet, but a few short days before the truck was to arrive, a local "pro" mover I had hired to load the truck for me estimated I needed 40 linear feet. Diana handled this last minute request so quickly and never made me feel badly about the gross underestimation. We had a few communication snafus with email addresses hard for me to access with my laptop in Mexico and computers being packed at home, but she and I were able to handle each little problem well together.

Anthony, my B.E. driver, was a real gent. He arrived early and was an asset movingn day to have around. Not only for his assistance even though he wasn't hired to load, but for his attitude in helping us get through a very difficult and stressful day involving 3 pick up points...and the need for more space on the truck because the local "pro" misestimated what we needed. Again, Diana handled this last minute problem with patience quickly and again without adding to my stress. Anthony's positive attitude helped us make it through the chaos of the day with a laugh or two. He safely drove my things to California in about 7 days as we were in no big rush to get the items there. He was pleasant on the phone when we checked in with him as I was already in Mexico and not easy to reach.

Now my things are warehoused waiting for the preparation to come across the border. This next step is with a mover recommended by our Mexican legal advisor so let's hope this part of the move goes as well as the B.E. part.

Cost: $7500 for unknown number of feet

Topic title: Broadway Express was AWESOME!

Pros: Your stuff gets packed just the way you want it, and you save money.

Cons: Duh...you have to do all the work yourself!

The Bottom Line: Incredible experience. If you have to move yourself, and are willing to put in some sweat, use them.

Full review

We were recently faced with moving our home (and all the stuff a family of six accumulates) from Los Angeles to Alabama. Since we were paying out of pocket for this (and not being moved by a corporation) we wanted something economical but trustworthy. We looked at several companies (Broadway Express, ABF, Allied) but went with Broadway.

They brought a full-size moving van complete with blankets for packing. We were also able to hire the driver to pack it for us as we moved the stuff to the curb. He did an incredible job, and upon unpacking, we found that not one thing was broken. After the all-day load-in was done, he took off and we drove to our new home. He got there in good time (but took his time as much as he could at our request...we had not closed escrow on the new house yet).

Our only snafu was on our original move-in day, the truck did not show. Turns out the poor mover had an acute gallbladder attack the night before on the I-10 freeway outside of Mobile. It landed him in the hospital for 8 days, and our trailer full of stuff was in an impound yard! Broadway took care of getting a new driver, and we had the stuff the very next day, and they even took a percentage off for our troubles. They could not have been better at customer service, returning phone calls, putting us at ease.

Hi Diana,

I wanted to thank you and your team for the wonderful help and moving experience we received on our recent move from Alaska to Maine. The driver Paul Lueke was great! He made sure everything was stacked well and secured, kept the help moving and had a great sense of humor. While we haven't had time to unpack anything yet, everything looks great. There were no crushed boxes and nothing had fallen down in almost 6.000 road miles. That speaks volumes to the packing. I will certainly highly recommend your company for anyone wanting to move out of Alaska. If it's ok I would like to leave your name and address with the realtor? I could not have asked for a better move - thank you again and if/when I ever move again, you will be the first (and only) call I'll make.

Sincerely,

Mo & Andi Lambdin

Feel free to use this letter for references if you'd like.

Broadway Express was AMAZING as sold. Diana was so helpful in coordinating everything and making sure to answer all of my questions via phone and/or e-mail. Our driver was Zeke [real name = Larry Zuelke], who went above and beyond to make sure that our belongings arrived before we had to leave for a trip. Even though he was saddled with extra trips/loads unexpectedly, he drove all night to make sure to get us our stuff on time and helped load the stuff onto the shuttle truck from All Star in blazing summer heat. Zeke called us regularly from before he arrived in SF to a few days after the move to make sure it all went ok. Couldn't have been more pleased with Broadway.

We used a local moving company- Golden Bay Relocation in SF- to load the truck and they were also fantastic as we knew they'd be, they moved for us before locally in SF, highly recommend them for local moves or loading a Broadway truck.

Broadway was cheaper than all other quotes, including ABF (by quite a bit) and seemed to be the fastest and most reliable option too.

Some things I learned:

- If you have really expensive/delicate items, there's no good way to insure them when using a freight company so that might be a deal-breaker unless you can ship those separately.

- Summertime (Peak season) means everything will be more expensive and take longer.

- Moving is painful and expensive but there are ways to minimize this, like using companies like Broadway Express and Golden Bay Relocation. - http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtop ... 643#132643

Note that he highly recommends Golden Bay Relocation for loading services in San Francisco. Golden Bay has many, many rave reviews on Yelp.com.

Move: CT to CA
Cost: About $2100 for 10 feet (the BE minimum number of feet)
Driver: Larry Zuelke ("Zeke")
Shipped a car: no

I never post to message boards but I feel that my experience with Broadway Express is worth registering for and letting other people know about.

I found broadway express through this website and from the moment I called them to the moment my shipment was delivered, I have absolutely nothing but great things to say about their establishment- it is truly a pleasure to give them and everyone else this positive feedback for such a job well done!

In short, I moved (in June 2010) from CT to CA. I had a relatively small amount of things to ship and, through BE's advice, I ordered 10 linear feet. To me, this seemed like it would be too small to accomodate everything I had accumulated in my 1 bedroom house but I went with their judgement which turned out to be spot on (I used 8 feet). I had a very short timeframe in which I needed my stuff delivered and an even shorter timeframe in which I needed it picked up. They agreed to not only pick it up on the day that I requested, but also on a Sunday! They assigned a driver ("Zeke") who contacted me ahead of time and lgave me daily updates on his progress towards my house. He arrived at exactly the time he told me he was aiming for.

I hired "Zeke" to help us with the loading of the truck which proved to be invaluable as his knowlede with respect to packing it was truly awe inspiring. He charged $30/hr which was a steal. He was amazing! Everything was packed with care, handled professionally, and in a very timely fashion. "Zeke" took off within a few hours and promised to do everything he could to arrive in exactly 1 week at my apt in CA. The window I was given spanned 7-12 days (I believe). "Zeke" called me periodically over the next week to let me know he was making good time, and, as promised, arrived in 1 week on exactly my prefferred day at exactly the time he said he would.

The unloading process was just as smooth as the packing process as I enlisted "Zeke's" help once again. Everything was intact and undamaged, in exactly the condition I left it in. I couldn't have been happier with my experience with BE and especially with "Zeke" who was professional, kind, courteous, and competent. I would give both of them my highest recommendation and will ABSOLUTELY go with them again.

 As a sidenote, my girlfriend just made the same trip (CT->CA) 3 weeks after me with a load of about the same size but contracted with North American and Sterling Moving. She used them because she had no one to help her load a truck at the time and clearly a driver couldn't do it by him or herself. This proved to be the worst mistake she could have made. They picked up her stuff three days late, gave her a 2 week deliver y window (guaranteed!) and are just now delivering her stuff 2 weeks after her latest day of her window (i.e. 1 month later). They refused to return phone calls (both Sterling and North American) and have offered no compensation whatsoever for all of the clothes she had to buy in the mean time. All the more reason I am SO grateful for the experience I had with Broadway Express!!!

THE GOOD:

Used BE to move me, but first did some homework on them. Every place I inquired or even mentioned their name I got rave reviews, and this from the insurance company, other carriers and load/pack places. Obviously, they do something right ALOT.

The cost for my 1,800 miles trip and 15 feet of space was $2,100. Fair.

I can see why you have less problems "losing" your things with BE as they actually section your area off with wood rails to the top of the truck, so none of your boxes or things mix into other folks possessions. This may sound petty, but I did a trip with Mayflower and the driver and I had to count my boxes about 3-4 times to make sure they got all the boxes out. There was no separating of the items in that van, and that could get mighty scary if you don't want to lose any of your items.

The service with them was considerate, caring and I really have no complaints at all with BE corporation at all. I would definitely use them again if I move or recommend them to anyone. It's an excellent carrier.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE NIGHTMARE (from beginning to end) from eMOVE.com:

K&M Movers, Peoria, Illinois 309/208-9200 or 309/686-4074

Do NOT use K&M MOVERS out of Peoria, Illinois, for moving your furniture--unless you want it destroyed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found a company on eMOVE.com that had good reviews. Little did I know that all they do is move boxes to UHauls. Only 9 reviews, but they were cheap and had such good reviews that I hired them to pack me. I assumed they were actually professional movers....after all, they were on eMove.com.

Well, they DESTROYED all my nice, new, expensive furniture and my pre-Civil War Antiques are also scratched up. Gouges (yes, folks, I said gouges) are out of some of my furniture, scratches, boxes crushed. They were throwing my expensive dining room chairs on top of my boxes marked very fragile! I have so many ruined things I am sick about it.
They had no dolly, no ladder (wasting the top 2 feet of the van), no tools. I had to call a friend to bring tools over as mine were packed.
They didn't even have a clue that you had to take the legs off tables when you pack them!

The owner (Marvin of K&M) was grabbing the drawers out of my bedroom chest of drawers and tossing the contents in a box. He ripped a handle out of the chest, and I still cannot find it. Now I get to replace 15 handles in this many drawered chest if I cannot find the one unique one that was there before--and had never come off before Marvin got to it.

They were, also, hired to pack but the wife (the K as in Karen) told me 2 days before leaving--BEFORE LEAVING--that they "don't pack. I probably should have told you that." 2 days!!! Luckily, I hired someone else to pack the very fragile things for me.

These people have NO clue what they are doing at all! They are good for one thing and one thing only: carrying boxes to a UHaul.

They had NO business taking a job they are not trained for or experienced in, but these "good Christian people" are so GREEDY that they took my job and destroyed nearly every piece of furniture I have in one way or another for my 3 bedroom house!

I could go on and on and on about how bad they were, but just let me say: avoid K&M Movers out of Peoria, Illinois, totally!
--------------------------------------------------
The moral of this story is: You can have the best van in the world, but you better pay attention to your packers/loaders, too. I'll be paying big for this huge mistake for years to come.

***As far as eMove.com: When I contacted them about this matter, and they could care less! So, you definitely should reconsider if you are even thinking about using eMove.com. AND DON'T trust their reviews, folks!!!!

Subject: Our move

Greetings Linda,

Thank you for the follow-up inquiry, and the opportunity to express my feelings on our recent move from Fond du Lac , WI to Clarkston, WA .

I just want to thank everyone at Broadway Express for the excellent service we received from the beginning to the end.

When I first started doing some personal checking on the internet about moving companies, I felt like I was just a little fish in shark infested waters. It seemed that many if not most movers are interstate pirates. Movingscam.com was very informative and helped me a great deal. And, of course, you come highly recommended on that website.

I'm so glad I found you. I was pretty close to going with "Movex" until I found out from the website that they are only brokers, who sometimes hire out to Broadway Express. Even though they offered us a price that was $400 cheaper, it was worth it to me to go with the good reputation of Broadway Express. I am very glad I did.

First of all, the price of the move was awesome. We have personal friends who own a moving company and of course we asked them first. They came in with a quote for around $8,000 plus. When I told them that you were going to move us for about $6,000, they couldn't understand how you did that. I don't know how you did that either, but I am thankful.

Then there are your employees. Your management is obviously "top shelf" in the fact that you surround yourself with fine employees. Diana Nuxoll was the woman I first spoke with and was very helpful and delightfully positive throughout our conversations. She is a fine employee, and represents Broadway Express with obvious pride and great energy.

I have to tell you that you also have one fine employee in the driver Paul Lueke. We had the entire 53 foot semi and that man was very knowledgeable and helpful both in loading and unloading the semi-trailer. He did everything that you promised he would in contacting us via phone. He also did many things above and beyond. We hired him to help load and unload, and we would SO encourage everyone to do that - he's worth every penny! He came in our house the night before we loaded and helped us blanket our furniture - all 10 rooms of it! Then the next morning, on loading day, he headed up the loading, packed it tight, floor to ceiling, all the way to the doors. It took 7 hours and the entire time he was cheerful and courteous.

As you know, moving is a very vulnerable and indecisive time for most people. Paul was a great guide and gracious friend for us. Absolutely top notch! We weren't there for the unloading, but we understand he worked even harder and all the while keeping a very positive, friendly and courteous demeanor.

All in all: Broadway Express is the only moving company I will recommend to my family and friends. That speaks for itself. Rating 1 to 10, your company is a perfect 10.

Thank you,

Dave Naumann

Move: Orlando, FL to Sacramento, CA
Cost: $1500 for 10 feet
Driver: Ed Morin
Shipped a car: no

I moved from Orlando, FL to Sacramento, CA. Ed Morin was the driver. Ed came a day early after calling and asking if that would be okay. I had no issue with this. The loading went smoothly. There were 2 of us and Ed said that he could help if we wanted but also that he was tired from loading earlier that day. The 2 of us went it alone and were done with loading the 10 feet in no time.

The window of delivery was August 4-12. Ed thought it would be on the 10th or 11th, but my stuff was delivered on August 7th or 8th (don't remember which). I had to change the destination address THE DAY BEFORE DELIVERY, and Ed was extremely accommodating. I am very appreciative of this. I had to change the destination address due to unforeseen circumstances and was very stressed out about whether it would interfere with any of the paperwork or delivery schedules.

Ed helped me unload on the morning of delivery and all was well. Some of my items were dinged and scratched, but nothing was broken. I thought I had done a good job packing the truck, but clearly I could have done better. If I use a service like this in the future, I will probably use more of the tie-down straps to hold my stuff in place as I used them sparingly this time.

All in all I would definitely recommend BE to friends and family.

http://www.movingscam.com/findmover.shtml So thank you so much for the excellent recommendation!

I am very happy with my move with Broadway Express. The move was from the Boston area to the Los Angeles area. I applied for 10 linear feet (the minimum allowed) for $2859. I used only about 5 feet but the price, of course, didn't change. The driver's name was J.D. (last name sounded something like "Milbourne"). I was very happy with the driver. He charged $40/hour for packing my stuff into the truck and unpacking stuff out of the truck. I could easily reach him on his cell throughout the move.

One minor glitch was that a floor lamp got broken (I had to throw it out). Another minor inconvenience was that my stuff arrived at the very end of the expected range of arrival dates. However, overall, I am very happy with the move.

Thanks!

Broadway Express is the best moving company in the world!

Move: Eastern Oregon to Silverton, Colorado
Cost: $3,950 for 53' (whole trailer!)
Driver: Mike T.

We have heard many very scary stores about moving disasters with many moving companies, so fortunately, we found movingscam.com and read many posts before deciding to contact Broadway Express for information regarding our upcoming move.

Diana was our contact person in the office and she is the greatest to work with and is VERY helpful. She answered all our questions about the move and sent us all the info we needed. She made the entire process so very simple.

Mike Terry (driver) and Tim were our moving experts and experts they are! They called us for three days before their scheduled arrival and told us where they were and that they were on schedule. When we were loading the truck, we could not believe how hard and fast Mike and Tim worked. We had so much STUFF we filled their 53' trailer (that is the size of a Wal-Mart trailer!). Mike and Tim are not only hard workers, they both have a great sense of humor and made our move a real ADVENTURE in moving. (You do pay additional fees for having them help, but they are worth twice what they charged!)

Not only were Broadway Express' prices VERY FAIR, we were thrilled to see that there were no hidden costs.

We were VERY IMPRESSED with Broadway Express' professionalism and we will DEFINITELY tell anyone we know that is planning a move to call Broadway Express. We could not have been happier!

P.S: Mike and Tim had to take their truck and trailer over HWY 550 from Ouray, CO to Silverton, CO, which is a very famous road because the pass is over 10,000' with narrow roads, sheer drop-offs and NO GUARDRAILS! Again... they are the best!!!! :D :D :D

He was prompt, professional and skilled when it came to packing and unpacking the truck. I would recommend him to friends and family for a smooth and successful move.

He provided ample dollies and furniture pads, and he gave great advice in terms of what order we should deliver the items to him for loading. He also was easy to get a hold of during the move and he called me several times to alert me of his current location. Last, he was willing to bring the truck into a tight spot due to the awkward positioning of our house, and he showed amazing talent in maneuvering the truck back out of our neighborhood.

I think other drivers might have simply refused to deliver to our door, and required unloading into a smaller truck for the last half-mile of the journey. We were grateful to have such a reliable partner during the stress of a big move.

Move: Boston area to Montana

Aaron B. wrote: I could not have been happier with Broadway Express' service in any way. I moved from just outside Boston , MA to the middle of nowhere in Montana .

Chanon Fine was the driver that picked up my belongings in Watertown . Chanon was great! Professional, punctual, hard working, very personable and he REALLY cared that my belongings were packed safely in the truck. He was an absolute joy to work with.

After a few days Chanon called me to let me know that because he couldn't get a full load out to Montana that my stuff had been transferred to another truck. I was a little concerned at this because initially Chanon had arrived with a straight truck which I knew would easily make it up my driveway which is long, narrow, curvy, and all uphill, but had now been transferred to a tractor-trailer. I was dreading having to haul my stuff up my 1/10th mile driveway if the truck couldn't make it up. Chanon gave me the name and number for the new driver, Larry Hall.

Before I even had the chance to call him, Larry called me and told me when to expect him. We arranged to meet at a gas station so I could take him in my car and I could show him the two different ways he could get to my place.

Larry was right on time and we drove the two routes in my car as we talked about.

Larry then got back into his truck and off we went. Amazingly, he brought his 45' truck right up to my door!

Larry was excellent. Again, very professional, friendly, hard-working and courteous. We had the truck unloaded in less than two hours. It was a real pleasure!

Now, the amazing part.... absolutely nothing was broken or damaged in any way! Considering I packed all the boxes, I found this to be absolutely amazing!!!

To wrap this up, I can't recommend Broadway Express, Larry Hall and Chanon Fine highly enough. They (and Broadway Express) made my cross-country move stress-free and an absolute pleasure to deal with from the very start to the last box to be unloaded.
