Postby readytomove » Mon Apr 21, 2008 8:46 am

I am moving localy within Northern Virginia, and was wondering if anyone has anything to say about Able Moving and Storage? Good or Bad.

Only that they are fine with the BBB, but nothing else.

You'll find information about Virginia movers here. http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtop ... 7122#77122

Able has their own motor carrier authority that was just reinstated on March 28, 2008 that you can check out at:

Big Dog, please refrain from being so hostile to our guests. They come here to find out HOW to investigate companies.

Actually you can see Able's revocation information here:

Sorry, I'm not really hostile. It just seems to me that a lot of shippers google up a mover's name & then ask "has anyone heard anything about the mover" without actually doing any research themselves. I sometimes get the feeling that the shippers wnat the forum to actually choose a mover for them. 8)

If I had a question about the quality of a particular bobtail truck, I might look a bit online, but then go right to a group of people who know what they're talking about and ask on RightMover.com "Does anyone know about the International XXX 26' truck?"

This site has become known as a gathering place for people who know a bit more than the average American about moving. It's both common and fair for someone to ask for our opinion. We steer them in the right direction and educate people as we go.

readytomove,

If you check out the Superlist post cited by Rick, you'll see that some negative things have been posted about Able. Personally I think you might be able to do better for a local move, although comments here suggest that Able might be low cost. For example, Beltway has very strong reviews.

After reviewing all the comments about Able and looking at other companies, I did end up using them. They were cheaper than anyone else by $600, and as it turned out did a great job. I fully recommend them.

Just a note that since Able used to be an Atlas agent, it would have been able to use Atlas' authority for an interstate move so the past revocation of its own interstate authority (mentioned above) would have been somewhat less important. Anyway, this was a local move. Thanks for the update.

If anyone knows when and why Able became dissociated from Atlas Van Lines, I would be interested in that information.
