I have some movers but would like more information...

Postby mover5 » Tue Jun 03, 2008 5:52 pm

I have been researching movers, I am moving from VA to OR. I have come up with several but I wanted to see if anyone has heard of them. I checked some of them on here to see if they had been posted about but then I no longer have internet connection readily available and so was not able to research them all. But here is my list.

every single one of them is a phony......look up your nearest United Van Lines Agent, or Mayflower, or Allied, or Atlas, or North American, and have them come out and quote you.....If you've already contacted the ones you listed, tell them you changed your mind.

Nomatter what the names are, the fact is that not a one of them is from Virginia. You need a mover who can come to your house, see everything to be moved, and have a trained professional do your estiamte. You listing all your belongings over the phone does not an accurate estiamte make.

I can go name by name and list the comapny's details, but really, what I just wrote is what's important. Please stay away from the find-a-mover websites.

Where in VA are you? If you're in the NoVA area, I can list a few movers that have proven themselves. I'm from Alexandria, and I keep track of my hometown.

Right off the bat, I can tell you that the last three are brokers (brokers only have an MC number, not DOT number for carriers). Actually Global is not even that, they're the Global Moving USA that operates from Israel without a license in this country to operate as a broker. They claimed some "umbrella company" crap when I called them about it. I'm glad you posted it here, because it shows they're using a third name and website.

First American isn't licensed as ANYTHING. They applied for a carrier's license on May 13, but haven't shown any proof of insurance, so the FMCSA hasn't granted the license yet. They can't move anybody anywhere.

Simply Moving's DOT number is actually 1679287. They're in Lithinicum Heights, MD, so at least they could come to your house. Any mover within 50 miles of your residence HAS to come to give you an on-site inventory, unless you signed a waiver. They're licensed as both a carrier and a broker since Sept 2007. I'll look into them more in a moment.

East Moving has only been licensed as a carrier since April. Something raises my suspicions about them, I'll return and see if they're a new name for an old mover.

I promise you I'll come back in a moment and check out these last two.

Simply Moving has not been paying their taxes to the state of MD. I guess this is one way of keeping downt he costs. Actually you can read this RipOff Report , with the response by owner Tom McJilton, and see why an in-home visit is so important to head off arguments and confusion later.

East Moving was incorporated in Feb. The owner, Josh Menahem, has no connections to other movers. So either he's a low-level employee covering for the real boss, or he's only got 3 months' experience. The website keeps crashing my browser, so I wouldn't recommend going to it.

First American Moving Systems is a new name for North America Moving Systems, which used to be United Moving Systems, which used to be Strong Arms Moving.

See a pattern?

Unbelievable.........it truly amazes me that people would give companies like this a half a second glance, yet they end up turning over everything they own to these bottom dwelling scumsuckers.....sad

wow! thanks for all the information. I feel kind of overwhelmed now, I thought at least one of them would be ok. But thanks very much. I'm having to drive some distance to get internet and then pay for it so your help has been amazing. I live in the Southwest Virginia area. There is a Mayflower near me. So I will call them. Once again, thank you.
