ATL to New Orleans

Am seeking a moving company to help us with a partial move from ATL to Nola- approximately enough furniture and clothes for two people living in a 1 bedroom apartment. We would like the moving company to pack up our kitchen and a small number of other breakables. Received one estimate from Big League Movers for $6200 based on an inventory list taken over the phone. It was cheaper for me to move from LA to ATL in 2012! CLS is coming in tomorrow for an in home visual estimate/nte. So I am back here again seeking any input/recommendations from the experts.

Thanks, John. CLS is a moving company in ATL. Estimated volume by their rep is 553 cubic feet/3871 lbs.

Cubic feet? Big red flag. You want your mover to give you your estimate in weight, not cubic feet. The reason is you have no recourse with cubic feet if there is a discrepancy between what they quoted you and what you actually have. If your quote is given to you in weight, you are legally allowed to be present at the weighing of the truck before and after loading and again at the destination. The other thing you need to think about is that unscrupulous movers can "under-pack" your boxes (such as a single lamp to a box) thereby increasing the amount of cubic feet used. If you have the weight ticket, you can dispute the load. There is no recourse for cubic feet.

Ballpark - based on 4000 lbs using a licensed and legitimate mover for early Sept,
$2700 - $3000. Add $400 - $800 for misc to full packing.

Ballpark - based on 4000 lbs using a licensed and legitimate mover for mid to late Sept,
$2500 - $2800. Add same numbers for packing.

This all assumes adequate access for moving trucks.

Get a couple in home estimates and be sure and book your mover - as Jeff recc. - based on weight.

CLS = Capital Logistics Services, MC#783806. They are NOT in Atlanta, that address is a UPS store. The other address they list is an apartment in Woodland Hill, CA, and there's yet a third condo address through their website registration in Miami, for this guy:

From Feb 2012 through Sep 2013 they were incorporated in FL under Adam's name. CLS has only been in business since 2008 (as their website claims) if you count Y & Y Motors Corp, which was Adam's corporation back then, but again, in Miami, not Georgia.

Point of interest, Moshe Yzhari (father? He's older by about a generation, it looks) was involved with Quick Trip Moving. One of our oooooooooold buddies from Norcross, back in the day. Could be that Adam learned everything from Pops.

CLS has already had a complaint lodged for holding a load hostage for more money upon delivery. Has their rep come by your house by now?

Oh jeez...clearly i need to F-O-C-U-S. I really appreciate all of your helpful feedback. SInce my note, I've spoken with Joyce Van Lines (no longer have an atl office. need to see if they'll honor weights provided by other companies to provide a nte) and AC White. You can't blame yourself for not seeing this. They are well trained at hiding history. That's why we're here, to expose them.

Don't ask another company to base an estimate off of someone else's work. Firstly, that is a gamble for the second company to offer you work without knowing for sure if the estimate was a good one. Secondly, it's unfair to the worker who put in the time to come see your things. If Joyce doesn't have a local office anymore, maybe they still maintain relationships with others and can send over an estimator on their behalf.

You're on a better track now. AC White's owner Archie used to volunteer his time at this site, gave excellent advice.

Thanks for all the feedback. We ultimately went with Joyce for a number of reasons and we are so pleased that we did. Our move was seamless and fast. Scott and Dave arrived on Thursday and delivered in New Orleans this (Saturday) morning. Meticulous, professional, detail oriented, kind, respectful of our space and our family, my husband and I were comfortable that Scott and Dave would treat our belongings as they would their own. The office team was equally responsive, knowledgeable and upfront. Kudos to June who was excellent in every wayI highly recommend Joyce Van Lines. I have been fortunate to have had very good moving experiences over the years but these guys are the tops! We plan to call them again for our next move to the West Coast! Thank you, again!
