Moving from Las Vegas to Medford, Oregon: need advice

Postby Dave G » Tue Feb 28, 2006 10:25 am

Hi all,

first of all thanks for the amazing amount of information and dilligence in the strange world of moving!

I've been offered a job in Medford Oregon and need to move my stuff up there within the next month. Most of the moving companies i've looked into (oasis and action) have both come up less than acceptable.

Can you give me a few names of reputable or worthy full service movers?

Thanks again for your time and help.

dave.

Hi - I suggest that you follow this thread to avoid duplication since someone else is asking the same question - http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7405

Diane,
thanks for the info. i've got a company sponsored move to take care of. we are going to do a full service company for a 3000ft2 home, 5 rooms and garage. I've been told from United and Oasis the move is in the $8k range, but after reviewing your site i'm not sure i want to go with them. i'll look into the links you've given me,

thanks,
dave.

Hi - Oasis should definitely be avoided. Can your company recommend a mover? I'm asking because I personally don't know of any high-quality agent of a major van line in Las Vegas. Usually United agents are pretty good.

my new company reccemmended united office out of medford, who then gave us over to action movers here in las vegas. they quoted us around $8k, but then said we could store our items for $3k/mo! we need to store because we don't have a home bought/rented yet. so, i was not pleased with $3k/mo, and i'm looking elsewhere.

i've since put in requests with Relocation Specialists (wheatons), capitol and moovers - just to get started. i'll keep you all posted as to our progress.

cant tell you how glad i am that you are here for us. thanks.

Dave,

You inspired me to "get it together" about Las Vegas moving companies. This is what I've come up with so far. To me the most important things that come through are to stay away from Capitol and that Puliz is better than AAction. I would suggest checking all these companies out with the BBB, which I haven't done as yet. Can you use an agent in Medford and have your things stored at destination?

In Nevada -

To date we have been unable to identify any clearly first-rate moving companies in Las Vegas. A brochure put out by the Las Vegas BBB in 2004 suggests that there may be a problem with scammers in the city - http://www.vegasbbb.org/views39.pdf (p. 23). People have speculated that because Las Vegas is isolated there is not enough competition to keep the companies on their toes. One person moving from Las Vegas used a United agent (Corrigan) from his destination city instead, with Puliz (United) in Las Vegas doing the household survey:

Atlas Van Lines agents

--Ace Worldwide (Atlas) in North Las Vegas.
No information.

Graebel Van Lines agents

--Graebel/Nevada Movers, Inc. in Las Vegas.
No information.

Mayflower Van Lines agents

--Sierra Moving Systems (Mayflower) in North Las Vegas.
This company also has a location in Reno. We have no information.

North American Van Lines agents

--Capitol North American (North American) in Las Vegas.
According to the Las Vegas BBB, this company is also doing business as Aaffordable Movers and its phone number is (702) 457-5353. The company is very large but its quality scores are mediocre (in the "meets standards" category). Not recommended by moving industry people posting here.

United Van Lines agents

--AAction Movers of Nevada (United) in Las Vegas.
This company is HQd in North Dakota. It has a website at http://www.aactionmovers.com and its phone number is (702) 452-0000. According to the Las Vegas BBB publication mentioned above, this company has or had another name (ASP, Inc.). A customer moving to Oregon ("dave g") posted that they wanted to charge him what he considered an exorbitant amount ($3000/mo.) for storage of the contents of a 3000 sq. ft. house:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtop ... 3357#53357

--Puliz Moving & Storage Co. (United) in Las Vegas.
This company has a website www.puliz.com and it also has a location in Reno. It is not listed in the BBB flyer referred to above so it may have joined the United network fairly recently (?).
"23" (works for another United agent) posted in April 2005 that "I have used both Aaction and Puliz. I would recommend Puliz first because they always seemed to go the extra mile for me.":
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtop ... 9806#29806
It did a household survey for someone moving with Corrigan in Michigan (see above), indicating that Corrigan too thought it was better than AAction.

Wheaton Van Lines agents

--Moving Relocation Specialists, LLC (Wheaton) in North Las Vegas.
This company is not listed in the BBB flyer referred to above but it has a website at http://www.movingrelocationsspecialist.com that says that its owner, Ed Fetters, is a high-rated driver. Its incorporation papers say that it is located in Henderson, NV--not Las Vegas. It won a quality award from the van line in 2003. Someone posted that he had a good move to Australia with this company:

diane,
you rock! thanks for the update. since my last post i've had Jayson at moovers give me a binding bid (no house evaluation) based on size of 14.8 klbs, with some sort of 'discount' and monthly storage for $9k. we may then exercise monthly storage for $500. i still don't know what AAction was thinking when they quoted me $3k!?

I've got Wheaton coming by soon and will give you a follow-up on their quote.

thanks again for all of your hard work and attention to detail,

Dave
