Small move from WDC to NC

Postby lizziecat » Tue Apr 04, 2006 2:29 pm

Thank you all for the wealth of information and guidance. I thought before I contacted any of the following I would run the list by you all. As stated, we only have maybe 20 large/heavy items that we need moved the day they are picked up.

Moyer and Sons
Von Paris
Hilldrup
Town and Country
Brennan's
Allstate Moving
ABS Moving
Safeway Van Lines
JK Moving
Craig Van LInes

I wanted to contact McCollister but haven't found any information on them other than a mention here and there in posts. Thanks in advance for any further assistance. Lizziecat

Safeway Van Lines is on my "non-recommended" list. I don't know anything about Allstate, ABS, or Craig. Maybe somebody will investigate those for you.

The others are OK.

10 quotes. My god your going to drive yourself crazy. My suggestion would be to pick three companies from different van lines, if thats the route your going. Hilldrup and Von Paris I know are United. But instead of looking like your just looking for price, which getting 10 estimates looks like, save yourself some time and bewilderness and get three to four quotes and go from there.

Best of luck,
Michael

With only a name to search by, I have to assume these are the companies you are talking about:

All State Moving & Storage
5601-A LaFayette Place
Hyattsville, MD 20718
Customer Experience
Based on BBB files, this company has an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau due to unanswered complaint(s).

Customer Complaint Data
Number of complaints processed by the BBB over the last 36 months: 73
Number of complaints processed by the BBB in the last 12 months: 29

This Business Operates under the Names:
A-Allstate Moving & Storage
All State Moving & Storage
Elite Movers
YICY, Inc (this is the Legal Name listed at the DOT)

They had their liecense revoked for a short time earlier this year.

There's also a strong possibility that this company is related to Omega Van Lines, a company that was Blacklisted with complaints before it even legally existed. ANyway, you can read the compliant leading to this possibility here:
www.badbusinessbureau.com/reports/ripoff156224.htm

Don't think you want to hire them.

ABS Moving
ABS Moving & Storage
2315 Stewart Avenue
Silver Spring, MD 20910

Customer Experience
Based on BBB files, this company has an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau due to unanswered complaint(s).

Customer Complaint Data
Number of complaints processed by the BBB over the last 36 months: 23
Number of complaints processed by the BBB in the last 12 months: 8

This Business Operates under the Names:
ABS Moving & Storage
Yossi's Moving And Storage
____________________________________________________________________________
Safeway Van Lines
Safeway Van Lines Inc
6219 Columbia Park Road
Landover, MD 20785

Customer Complaint Data
Number of complaints processed by the BBB over the last 36 months: 41
Number of complaints processed by the BBB in the last 12 months: 12

They hire drivers who do not meet the requirements, like being under 21 and driving interstate, or speaking English, or being licensed to drive a truck, you know, little things like that.

I concur that the others are all OK, to my knowledge.

Craig Van Lines, Inc. (MC #217589) in Fairfax, VA, looks OK on safersys.org and the BBB website.

How did you happen to hear of All State, ABS, and Safeway?

I'll add All State and ABS to my "non-recommended" list. Thanks, MM.

WANING: Do NOT use Omega Van Lines for anything. They're website claims they have the seal of approval from the BBB. They DON'T. Their membership was revoked (with good reason) for their inability to meet the standards.

If they still use the BBB logo after being kicked out, you may want to inform their local chapter of the misuse.
