Information on All my Sons in North Carolina

Postby Guest » Sat Apr 08, 2006 11:53 am

Hi, great website by the way! We are moving 2 very large curio cabinets from High Point, NC to Charlotte, where we plan on storing them. In addition, we are also moving/storing a washer/dryer.

We contacted several local companies, and All my Sons seemed like they passed most of the qualifacations posted on this site. My question is if anyone has used them, and if so, what was their experience with them? Thanks!

We have no actual reviews. However, a long-rime volunteer here posting as "Michael" (works for Atlas in NC) made bad comments about them on this thread - http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4941

Here's my summary post about what has been said here about moving companies in NC. Many of the comments have to do with Raleigh so I don't know whether they would be useful to you in High Point. You might send a PM to Michael to see whether he could recommend another company in your area.
In North Carolina -
Diane wrote:"Michael" (works for Atlas in NC) has said to stay away from All My Sons (American Red Ball), which has a "horrible BBB record":
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtop ... 4808#54808
Also, he says to avoid "Two Men and a Truck" (independent) in Raleigh:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtop ... 4627#54627
And run from Every Move You Make (independent) with MC #442290 in Raleigh:

Allied Van Lines agents

--Berger Transfer & Storage (Allied) in Charlotte.
Someone got a quote from them for a move to VA but no further information.

--Excel Moving & Storage (Allied) in Raleigh.
"Michael" (works for Atlas) posted that this branch is good, although their salespeople dealing with household goods tend to underestimate a bit:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtop ... 4913#54913
He also said that he would rank Armstrong above Excel (he doesn't work for either):
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtop ... 7719#27719

Atlas Van Lines agents

--Crofutt & Smith Moving & Storage (Atlas) in Raleigh.
This company has a very good reputation nationally, but nothing has been posted about the quality of the Raleigh branch.

--Security Relocation Group (Atlas) in Raleigh, Charlotte, and Goldsboro.
This company should not be confused with the United agent Security Storage Company of Washington that is based in Washington, DC.
"Rick" (industry expert) posted that "before signing with Atlas, they were one of Mayflower's largest hauling agents and their President was asked to be one the first members of the Unigroup board when United purchased [Mayflower]":
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtop ... 1211#41211
"Cooldude" (Sri) gave the Raleigh office a good review (8/10) for his move to CA:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtop ... 0117#30117 (interstate)
There is a rave review of the Raleigh office by "skanthadai" for a move to CA:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4295 (interstate)
"Ultraviolet" got a quote from the Charlotte office for a move to VA but never came back to post who he went with:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6289
"rwreynard" (Rachel) was unhappy with a driver from the Charlotte office for her move from NJ to Seattle:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtop ... 7416#47416
"trheelz97" posted a rave review of a move to Denver booked by the Raleigh office:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6856

Graebel Van Line agents

--Graebel Raleigh Movers (Graebel) in Durham.
"Michael" (works for Atlas in NC) posted this general comment about Graebel as a whole--not this specific agent (http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtop ... 2298#22298):

I will say, in my opinion of course, having worked for Graebel for 5 years, if your a National Account (company has a contract with the agent and the company is paying for it) you will probably have a good to great move. If your a COD (paying for the move yourself) you will probably have a poor to good move.
"alumj" went with Graebel Raleigh for a move to Seattle (they were $1500 less than Excel and All American) but he never came back to report:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4292 (interstate)

Mayflower Van Lines agents

--A & D Relocation (Mayflower) in Raleigh.
Mentioned but no information.

--All American Relocation (Mayflower) in Raleigh.
"Michael" (works for Atlas in NC) expressed the opinion that they were better than Excel but a bit pricey:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4292
"Eric" (moving from Detroit to Raleigh) said that All American was offering a 56% discount for new teachers and he got a quote from them:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7023
On that same thread, "I-95" (long-haul driver based in the Northeast) posted that All American moves mainly military, "so to them 56% is a big discount":
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtop ... 0719#50719

--Ray Moving & Storage (Mayflower) in Greensboro and Burlington.
This company's website is www.raymoving.com. It is said to be a good company by "Michael" (works for an Atlas agent in NC):
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4038

North American Van Lines agents
According to "Michael" (works for Atlas in NC), neither of the North American companies listed below are good in Raleigh:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtop ... 4808#54808

--Beltmann (North American).

--DeHavens (North American).

United Van Lines agents

--Armstrong Relocation Co. (United) in Morrisville.
This company has a very good reputation nationally but the Raleigh branch is small, according to "Michael" (works for Atlas):
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtop ... 4808#54808
We have a positive report by "ncman021" on the estimator for his move to GA, but he ended up moving himself because of the cost:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtop ... 2670#12670 (interstate)

--Hilldrup Moving & Storage (United) in Charlotte.
Someone got a quote from them for a move to VA but we have no further information.

--Horne Moving Systems (United) in Raleigh.
"AC" (Annie) moving from NYC to Portland praised "Michael" for setting up a good move for her with Horne when he worked for them in 2003:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=140

--Lawrence Transportation Systems (United) in Charlotte.
This company is HQd in Roanoke, VA. Its website is www.lawrencetransportation.com and its phone is 800-336-9626.
"Ultraviolet" (moving to VA) got an estimate from them (Jerry Lawrence) for a move to VA but we don't know whether he went with them:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6289

--McCollister's Transportation Group, Inc. (United) in Morrisville.
This company has a very good reputation nationally but the Raleigh branch is small, according to "Michael" (works for Atlas):
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtop ... 4808#54808

Wheaton Van Lines agents

--Mather Brothers Moving (Wheaton) in Raleigh.
Mentioned but little information. "Michael" (works for Atlas in NC) posted that it was rather small. "asms29" posts here sometimes and works for them.

Independent moving companies

--Mitchell Brothers Moving (independent) in Greensboro.
Someone got a quote from them for a move to CA but we have no other information. They have MC #245138.

--Moving on Movers (independent) in Raleigh.
According to "Michael" (works for Atlas in NC), this company has a good local reputation but sometimes doesn't give many details in its estimates:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtop ... 4627#54627

--TROSA (independent) in Raleigh.
This company's website is www.trosainc.com and its phone number (in Durham, NC) is 919-419-1059.
"NYCgirltoNC" used them to move out of storage after a move to Raleigh. She comments, "I believe they are an organization that helps people who are rehabilitating get back into the work force. Totally competent and a great price - I'd use them again for a move in a minute.":

Avoid Them. This is Michael, posting as Michael, ha ha. I think it sounds funny how Diane says someone posting as Michael, as if its an alias or something. Of course it could be the way I read it too.

And you know I never even saw a few of those post below that you have marked for Security. Nice to see the good remarks.

Anywayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. Avoid All my Sons. Cheap price probably, but also a poor company. Here in Raleigh their BBB record is off the charts. Their sales people will try to sell that they have made significant changes and blah blah blah. But they havent. They have the most marks against them on the BBB then any company I have ever seen. From what I have heard and seen from customers they tell you what you want to hear and do not stand behind those promises.

Best of luck,
Michael

Michael, is it really you?

Does the quality of All My Sons vary from place to place, do you know? Is it possible that the branch servicing High Point is better than the one in Raleigh?

Its possible, but there are much better movers to chose from. Nationally they are not widely thought of and we see that here on this board also.

Can you recommend another company in or near High Point that would be good for such a small move?
