Anyone know of a reputable mover for a local move in NOVA? Is Global any good?

Global who? Can you give some more info?

Here is a link to a list of well-reviewed movers in the DC Metro area. There are more, which you can review at the link, according to states.

Independants:
Beltway Movers (will do long distance, but not too far away)
Moyer & Sons (same)
JK Moving (can go cross country, generally is pretty pricey)
Thomas AAA - a.k.a. JK Moving of MD

Van Line agents:

United Van Lines:
Hilldrup (Stafford & Manassas, VA)
Von Paris (Alexandria)
McCollister's (Alexandria)
Security Storage (DC)

Atlas:
Paxton Van Lines (Springfield)

Allied:
Victory Van Corporation (Alexandria)

Wheaton:
Olympic Moving & Storage (Alexandria)

Stevens:
Worldwide Moving Systems (Waldorf)

North American:
Relocation Systems (Dulles, VA)

Thanks for the help.

The company I was talking about was Global Moving Systems. Here is a link to the company on BBB.org.

Thanks.

I've never heard of that company, but their alternate name Choice sounds familiar, give me a minute...

Their address is a postal mailbox. Bad sign already.

In business for less than one year, owns one truck. This is a tiny, new company, that cannot have possibly built up a good reputation yet. I think you should stick with the list I provided.

The most recent local move reviewed was a good one from Beltway movers.

I know I am a guest, but this is real feedback.

I called Moyer for a quote, but they are not available on the day I need. I asked John(?) in dispatch for other movers, and he mentioned several by name and provided their phone numbers.

A place that is knowledgable about its competition and is willing to help out a non-customer seems OK in my book.

I just thought folks should know about my experience.

Cheers,

Mick

Thanks for the info on Moyer. It is nice when companies will recommend each other, rather than bad-mouth each other.

I have spoken with Moyer, and I agree the are a good company. I considered them for my own move, but decided not to use a full service mover. A neighbor of mine liked them.

Mixter and MusicMom,

Thanks for this additional positive information about Moyer and Sons. I am adding it to my summary post linked to below.

I am thinking that maybe I should also cross-reference some of these companies and list them under both MD and VA. What do you think? I already did it with Beltway.

If you're going to do that, call it DC Metro Area, since there is that zone stipulated by the DOT that is considered "local moves" even if going from MD to VA. Unfortunately, I don't know where in Title 49 that zone was discussed. At one time I had it bookmarked, but my list was getting long and I never used it.
