NYC Self haul movers?

Postby uesjo » Mon Aug 28, 2006 10:05 pm

Am moving to Miami in Oct and would love a self haul mover, are there any in NYC ? I Have already contacted Dahill and University Van Lines as they have great reviews but they estimate a 3-10 day delivery window. Are there any companies that would be able to do a 3-4 day delivery? I live in a one bedroom apt. I thank you for your input

Are you wiling to drive a truck yourself? You can tow your car, and deliver as soon as you get there. Hore loaders at each end to help get the stuff on the truck.

With a smaller load, you will be hard-pressed to find a reputable company who will delivery in the timeframe you need. Priority is given to the larger loads.

These companies would be better choices in my opinion :

Leonetti Bros. Inc. Local and long distance with storage available.
Specialists in pianos, packing & crating. Family owned and operated for 50 years.
3510 Lawson Blvd., Oceanside (Hmpstd)..............................................................Tel: 516-536-0344

Maher Van Lines
103 Orinoco Dr., Brightwaters (Islip).......................................................................Tel: 631-968-5088
Internet:................................................................www.mahervanlines.com

Joseph Barton

Austin Verity Moving ,516/785-7620
http://www.verityvanlines.com/veritya.htm

All of these companies are quality companys that run straight trucks to Florida. Maher and Verity run tractor trailers as well as straight trucks and have very high quality drivers. Joseph Barton and Leonetti run straight trucks to Florida exclusivly. By hiring a company that utilizes the smaller straight truck,as opposed to a tractor trailer you should be able to avoid a shuttle(small truck used to shuttle shipment to van lines tractor trailer),which is a significant charge that companies like Dahill and University would likely charge you.

Joseph Barton is a little elitest and the choice for many high profile local moves on Long Islands Gold coast, but offers an outstanding service and would be worth calling.

Thanks, Glad, for this information, which I added to my summary post on companies on Long Island. I particular liked the website for Maher with its closeup photos of all the people involved in the company.

University also runs straight trucks to Florida and possibly Dahill does too but by giving a wide delivery window I think they may be allowing for the fact that they might have to put together loads to fill out the truck. I would venture to say that few companies would be able to move a 1BR to FL on an exclusive basis without charging at least $4K and probably more.

I am worried about something. The Verity Van Lines website says that Michael A. Maffucci is the owner of Verity Van Lines/Austin Verity. Is that person connected with "Triple Crown" Maffucci, the Bekins agent that is so horrible?
