JetBlue Movers -- anyone heard of them?

Postby lmadern » Thu Aug 23, 2007 12:02 pm

I'm getting quotes for a move from Columbia, SC to Austin, Tx and received one from a company called JetBlue Movers LLC that have a phone number in Charlotte, NC. I searched the net (including these boards) for any information on them. I wasn't able to find anything so I sent an email to a representative for the company saying that they have been in business for about 7 years now and are a moving broker that uses companies such as -- Wheaton, Mayflower, All My Sons, Whiteglove...

I can't find them in the bbb and was wondering if anyone could look up their license information to find anything else out about them.
Their license is: MC-614811
Phone numbers:
704-900-9621
704-962-4361
Fax 800)-886-8071

TIA for any help you can give.

They're a broker - don't use them.

Find a LOCAL mover to come and do an in home estimate. Here's a list of reviews for your area:

Oh for Pete's sake, they're not even LICENSED as a broker. They put in an application and haven't even been approved:

Thanks a lot for the information. I didn't find them, they found me, lol. They only have a parked webpage right now at www.jetbluemovers.com.

So the license number he gave me isn't even a license to broker a move?

I think I'll stay far away.

And do they really think people will use them because their name is known as an airline???

Plus, they're not incorporated. The funny thing is, JetBlue airlines IS incorporated in NC (although the main office is in NY). Wonder what their lawyers would say about the broker's name?

I googled the phone number on their FMCSA report and I think it's a cell phone, because its owner, Ajay Khatri, is selling furniture on Craigslist from Charlotte.

People by now realize how easy it is to be a moving broker and make a quick buck with no fear of prosecution or reprisal. Everyone and their mom are setting up brokerages now.

Yes, AJ is the owner, he answered the phone. He says "they must be going through the whole bonding process", when he gave me his license number and I looked it up and said it wasn't active. I said I can't use him, thanked him, and he thanked me back. At least he was polite, if illegally offering interstate moving services.

You said they found you? Do you remember which website you entered your move information into that led them to you?

The website www.jetbluemovers.com is registered anonymously.

Thank you both so much for your time. I'll definitely be staying away from them. I just didn't expect moving to cost so much. I've been quoted $4585 by Allied and $4221 by Atlas. These JetBlue movers quoted me $3765 for the move. All three of them giving me replacement insurance with a $250 deductible.

These quotes were based on a weight of ~7700 lbs. I may just have to pack/load myself and have someone drive it for me. :(

They must have found me from entering my information at www.orbitzmoving.com as that was the only one I checked online.

Lange Moving Systems is located right in Columbia, they could give you a quote. They also do alot of their own hauling.

There are ways to reduce your costs a bit, if you're willing to take on a little extra work.

The first way is to sell off any furniture that isn't sentimental or extremely valuable.

The second is to hire a freight company like BE or ABF, and if needed hire loaders at each end, like through www.emove.com

The third is to hire loaders to fill up a rental truck that you drive, and tow your car on a trailer.

Any of these seem to work for you? They'd not be a significant savings, but would help.

I was thinking of going with BE if we decided not to get a full-service company. I wouldn't need to hire anyone as I have friends and relatives on both ends that could help with the loading/unloading. I am currently reading the sticky about ABF/BE. :)

Thanks jengsa, I'll give Lange a shout and see what they can come up with for me.

I don't know if you can arrange a Texas company to move you, but if so, it's worth checking out Ward Moving, an agent for North American, based in San Antonio. They moved me from Austin, TX, to NYC in 2006 and did a good job. The agent in Austin was helpful and the guys who packed up the truck were nice. They broke a few things but cut me a check for full value.
