Moving from metro Detroit area to Raleigh, NC area at end of July

Postby tizzylizz » Mon Jun 18, 2007 9:26 pm

Hello,
I just found this great forum when looking for suggestions on moving companies.

We need to get 3 estimates from moving companies to give to my husbands employers, before they will pay for our move. I want to get 3 good companies to give estimates.

Would anyone suggest some good ones to get. Just from reading briefly this board it seem Moovers are good, but, do they service Michigan?

We have packed up our items. So we would like a moving company to load in Mi, drive to NC and unload.

Also, would anyone have an esitmate on the price of this? Our home is about 2,800sf. My husband thinks 10k to have a moving company---but, I think that is way high! Just wondering....

Thanks for any help!

You can go to any of the big moving company websites and they should have an estimator on there like this one:

Here's a list of reviews in Michigan:

Moovers might have a truck going your way, but they're pretty booked up, so it depends on the dates. Give them a call and ask.

I would suggest calling Corrigan (United), DMS (Atlas) and Palmer or University (North American). I am sure you will see them on those list.

Best of luck and welcome to Raleigh, NC. Novi to Cary, NC myself, 7 years.

Hi,
I just wanted to report back about my move and moving company.

As planned we moved from Detroit to Raleigh at the beginning of Aug.

I got 3 bids from Corrigan, Atlas & NorthAmerican as per Michael.

All 3 reps where very professional---showed up on time & did a detailed walk-thru. I would have gone with any of them, but, the employer picked the 'middle of the road' price. If we had to pay out of pocket for the one we wanted, we would have, but, I felt they all where very professional & would have gone with any.

The move went very smooth. We ended up with Atlas (DMS). Working with Cheryl was excellent---she answered any questions.

All the movers were very nice & helpful (on both ends). So far I have found nothing damaged (still have more to upack, though :)

Thanks for the 3 good suggestions.

I'm glad the website (reflecting Michael's views in the case of the Detroit area!) was helpful to you, and I posted your review of DMS on the Superlist linked to below my name.
