small move from NY to UK

Postby treesaregreen » Sun Sep 30, 2007 6:34 pm

Hello,

I'm trying to find any moving companies that will ship 50 cubic feet to the UK. I've contacted the recommended moving companies on this website (Euro, Rainer, Upakweship) and their mininum shipment charge is 100 cubic feet.

Many thanks,
Teresa

Thanks. I've contacted the recommended movers on the list and their minimum is 100 cubic feet. I contacted UPS and they don't offer sucha a servie. Does anyone else have any suggestion for a small move (50cu ft) which would include fragile items (computer and photo equipment)

Have you already packed up your goods?

How did you calculate that you only have 50 cubic feet?

What price did the four movers offer you for moving the 100 cubic feet?

I haven't packed my things yet. I'm pretty sure that I have less than 50 cu feet of stuff because I'm only shipping my personal affects (clothing, knick knacks, some books, computer equipment) and I used the calculator from upakweship.com

The quotes that I was given for 100 cu feet range from $1095 to $1400 with Rainer being the cheapest.

thanks again.

It might be worth asking someone like Rainer to do a free in house estimate for you to see what your volume really is.

The normal guideline I used for estimating personal effect on a move without seeing it is 100 cubic feet of personal effect per person in the home.

It would not cost you anything to have the survey done. You will then have a more accurate picture of your volume. No sense looking for someone to move 50 cubic feet or less if you have more than that!

I ended up shipping my things with Rainer. They were the cheapest of all the places I asked. I had a very good experience with Rainer. I dealt with Mark Lawson who was great. He guided me through all the steps from the US and their UK rep was very helpful.

I got my goods earlier than the 2 month shipping estimate. Everything arrived in the condition that it left in. I would definitely use Rainer again.

Can you tell us who the agent was that did the packing/loading in NY for you?

I'll add your review to the international thread.
