Nevada Mover - Eli Trucking

Postby BLUE54321 » Wed Feb 27, 2008 8:40 pm

Has anyone used this company? I have some inherited furniture to have moved from Las Vegas area to Oregon. Their bid seems reasonable, but I cannot find any reviews by any who might have used them. Thanks.

How'd you get a bid from them?

They're not actually in Las Vegas, that's just a mailing address. They're really in CA. They have 3 trucks and 6 drivers, and a higher-than-average failed inspection rate on both (although for minor logbook violations).

So what was the bid, and for how much volume or weight did they estimate?

The verbal weight estimates range from 1000 to 2900 pounds. Using their estimates, the bids have quite a range. ABF said $1300 to $1500, Oasis (who I clear will not be using based on this site's reviews) was $1240. Eli said $1113 and Experience bid $950, but I don't intend to use them.

My problem with using ABF is finding a way to wrap the more delicate end ables and china lamps. I really am at a loss. I am worried about putting this family heritage stuff on a freight truck.

I once used a company called ABC in CA and they wrapped the stuff for us and then freight shipped it and all arrived well. Those were much smaller shipments. HELP

You could go on www.eMove.com and see whether you can find a high-rated company that is willing to just do the packing (and crating if necessary) and loading. A local moving company also might be willing to do that, but the cost is likely to be higher than with eMove.com workers. You sound like a good candidate for an ABF ReloCube. With the cubes, it is usually easier to secure the items than it is with a trailer because there is e-track all around and the space is smaller. You can wedge material in between the items to prevent shifting and rubbing.

Blues, no way a full service mover will cost less than the you-pack company. If Eli's price is even less than Oasis, a mover reported to hold loads hostage for additional money, I'd say to pass.

Thanks for the input so far. I did find Eli through one of those "get a free quote" websites. I am so nervous about damage to my goods, that my brother and I are back to considering flying down, renting a Uhaul, loading it up and driving it back here. The cost is about equivalent to a fulll service mover (just a little less), but it would be a road trip and we would enjoy the trip and time together. Since no one on this website has heard of Eli in particular, that is worrisome in itself.

Avoid Uhaul. Penske is the best and Budget is the 2nd best. If you have AAA you can get a 20% discount from Penske and an additional 10% off if you book online.

I have to say with first hand experience to avoid Oasis. They do hold loads for additional money. $500 in my case. Screwed me over on my budget. I'm currently going thru hell fighting it.

Thanks for all your input. We have decided to fly down, rent a penske and drive the load home ourselves. Thanks for the tip on Penske. I saved over $100 from Uhaul. AAA discount and web discount.

We actually used this company and felt we got SCAMMED. They gave us a quote before the day of move and once they got to our house and packed all of our stuff the price went up by $1700. They were very nice to us upfront saying not to worry, we will handle your stuff with the utmost care and not to worry, there will be no additional charges for anything.......but in the end, we were disappointed. Our belongings were damaged and we were out much more money than expected. I would NOT recommend this company ever.

Did you file a complaint with the FMCSA at www.protectyourmove.gov?
