Scott Relocation (Mayflower) in Massachusetts

Postby torres » Sun Jul 20, 2003 10:38 pm

Has anyone had any experience with the company above? Also, i am moving locally and was quoted by the (est) total weight instead of by the hour. Is this unusual? Any help would be appreciated.

You said you are moving locally. Is that under 40 or 50 miles? Anything over that might be run as an intrastate move which is normally based on weight, but any mileage under that is usually by the hour.

I work in Ohio, and we actually have the option of doing moves by the weight or by the hour. I normally do everything under 50 miles by the hour, (much easier to calculate because trying to get weights in the middle of loading and unloading is a pain on local moves) and over 50 miles based on weight.

You can convert weight to hours by doing this:

1 man can load 500#/hr and unload 750#/hr
Ex. a 3000# local would be estimated like this:
Loading 2men, 3 hours
Travel to new residence
Unloading 2men, 2 hours

So this move would take 5 hours plus the travel time.

I would call other companies in your area and ask them how they charge.

Thanks Josh for the info! Regarding our move, we will travel only about 17 miles (20 minutes or so from our current house). This company is the only one who came over and looked at our house which is the main reason i am considering it. Also, the quote was based on 11000 lbs which i think is slightly high because we have a 3 bedroom house but 1 is a guest bedroom and the other is our son's room (crib and cabinet). Both are sparesly ( or spartanly) decorated. We do have a full basement and a two car garage that are fairly full. The rest of the rooms are moderately decorated at best.

All others quoted by the hour and inventoried by the phone and most came from the Brighton area of MA which i read from the forum to stay away from.

Again, any thoughts would be appreciated.
