Houston to Los Angeles

Postby Changeling » Tue Oct 18, 2005 10:35 pm

Hello, this website is great! We are moving from Houston to Los Angeles, with 2 months of storage in between, and have narrowed our moving company choices to 4. All of them appear to be large, well established companies.

Armstrong Relocation (United Van Lines)
13855 West Fair East Drive
Houston, TX 77041
DOT 77949
estimated weight: 7490

Atlantic Relocation (an Atlas Agent)
5210 Tacoma Dr
Houston, TX 77041
DOT 125550
estimated weight: 7499

Berger Allied (Allied Van Lines)
3021 Mangum
Houston, TX 77092
TX DOT 5850382C
MC - 15735
estimated weight: 8900

10901 Tanner Road
Houston, TX 77041
TX DOT 36367
MCC - 158651
estimated weight: 8652

All 4 seem like good, careful companies and they all gave us guaranteed not to exceed bids relatively close to each other. We're lucky in that we have a moving allowance that will pay for the move so price isn't the most important aspect. What we want is the smoothest, most hassle-free move possible. How do we distinguish between these companies?

For example, Armstrong touted that they were a "Pinnacle Mover" - is this important? Graebel stressed how they are all one company and we would have only one contact person from start to finish - does this matter? Also, Berger Allied told us they had offices in both Houston and LA, so we would be dealing with two branches of the same company - does this make a difference?

And these are just the things I can think of off the top of my head!

Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide!

Hi - as far as I know, all four companies are reputable but I would lean toward Armstrong and Atlantic just because they are United and Atlas agents and I think those van lines are the best.
