A-1 Jupiter Fl Employees of Questionable Character

Postby DM5139 » Fri Dec 23, 2005 11:46 am

I moved recently from Palm Beach County, FL to NY Metropolitan area, and I used A-1 out of Jupiter, Fl. I was pleased with the service, and the move went fairly well. My problem arose once my furnitire was delivered to NY. Some items would not fit into my new home. The mover / driver employed by A-1 showed an interest in the furniture, which was approximately one year old, and asked if I would be willing to sell it to him, and he would load it back on the truck and take it back to FL with him. We agreed on a price (quite reasonable I might add) and also agreed that he would send me payment once he returned to FL. I obtained this in writing, as well as the driver's ID and personal information. In any event, to cut to the chase, he never sent payment (yeah, I know, shame on me). Any way, I just want to say that I learned the hard way that you can't trust anyone. I contacted A-1 with this information / complaint via e-mail and regular mail. No reply was ever received from them. Based on this, even though the move went fairly well, I was left with a sour taste in my mouth, and I would never recommend this company to anyone.

I'm very sorry to hear this. Something similar happened to me too, but (as you say) only once.

I suggest that you call the A-1 sales manager who posted this to see whether he can help you - http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtop ... 8738#28738 The company might be willing to make good on the debt in the interest of maintaining customer good will. Meanwhile, I'll note your complaint in my summary post about FL movers at http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtop ... 8910#48910

Thank You. I have e-mailed Jim Karrh at A-1, and will wait to see if he replies.

Hello, My name is Andy Newitt and I am the General Manager for A-1 Moving & Storage of Jupiter, FL. (andy@a1moving.com)(www.a1moving.com)

This posting is the first I have heard of this problem. I have never received a call, email or snail-mail from anyone in regards to this matter.

I want you to know that I have contacted the driver involved and I also left a message this morning for the shipper involved, but he did not call back.

Now that I am aware of the problem I am sure that it will be handled quickly.

Just an update if anyone is interested.
As of Feb. 1, this still has not been resolved, and although Mr. Newitt has exchanged e-mails with me on a few occasions, it is apparent that this is going nowhere.
Once again, it says alot about the company.
Thank You, your website and message board have been a big help to me.

Unfortunate. The notation will stay in my summary post about FL moving companies until you tell us that the situation has been resolved. It would be good if you could sign up for membership here so we can communicate with you by Private Message to get an update if necessary.

Allied Van Lines agents

--Vision Moving Systems (Allied) in Jacksonville.
No reviews but good comments by "PMueller," a sales rep for another Allied agent.

Graebel agents

--Graebel Jacksonville.
No reviews but good comments by "PMueller," a sales rep for an Allied agent.

United Van Lines agents

--Suddath (United) in Jacksonville.
No reviews but good comments by industry people.

SOUTHEAST COAST (Palm Beach County)

Atlas Van Lines agents

--A-1 Moving and Storage (Atlas) in Jupiter.
We have couple of good reports on moves with this company:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3524 (interstate)
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5731 (local move)
There is one more good report about an interstate move, but the poster complains that A-1's driver failed to pay him for furniture he sold to the driver and the company did nothing about it:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6839

United Van Lines agents

--Bohren's Moving & Storage (United) in West Palm Beach.
No reviews as yet, but good comments by industry pros. Bohren's also has a facility including a large warehouse in NJ, which is where its corporate HQ is located.

Independent moving companies

--Crystal Coast Moving & Storage (independent) in Riviera Beach.
The phone number for this company is 561-863-8343 and the owner is Dan Harvey.
We have a good report:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6481 (several within-state moves)

Auto transporters

--Ron Bailey Auto Broker, Inc. in West Palm Beach.
Since many people ask about reputable FL companies to move autos, I am including this company (phone 800-637-6969 or 561-686-3001; MC #183424). Judging from www.safersys.org, I think it may have some of its own trucks as well.
We have one good report:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4474 (move from CA to FL)

SOUTH FLORIDA (Dade and Broward Counties)

Atlas Van Lines agents

--A-1 Fargo (Atlas) in Miami and Pompano.
We have one good review:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6010 (interstate)

--Ace Worldwide (Atlas) in Miami.
"Rick" made good remarks about the company, and we have one good review:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6180 (interstate)

--LaMar Transfer (Atlas) in Miami.
Good comments about an interstate move in a private message to me from "Newlyblond" in 11/05 - "I had [a] great experience . . . when I moved up here [to Long Island] from Florida 6 years ago! For the record, the company I used was called LaMar Transfer (out of Miami) and they are still in business. If you see any posts from anyone moving from the Miami area, I'll be happy to correspond with them about LaMar."
Note that the above review is very old.

--Bekins Van Lines agents

--Bekins South Florida in Miami.
I'm not sure of the location of this company (it could be in Fort Lauderdale), so ask for Bob Jones.
We have one good review:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5721 (move within FL)

Graebel agents

--Graebel of South Florida in Miami.
We have good remarks about this company by "Michael" (a volunteer who works for an Atlas agent in Raleigh, NC).

Paul Arpin Van Lines agents

--Joe's Moving and Storage (Paul Arpin) in Miami.
There is one good review by "FrustratedMover" (Gabriella) for a move within FL:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4491 (move within FL)

United Van Lines agents

--Suddath (United) in Deerfield Beach.
We have good reviews of interstate moves:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5533 (interstate)
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6013 (interstate)

I advise against using the independent company Coral Springs Moving in Coral Springs (Miami area) because of several service failures reported on this board.

CENTRAL FLORIDA (includes St. Petersburg, Tampa, Lakeland, Orlando, and Ocala)

Allied Van Lines agents

--Blocker Transfer (Allied) in St. Petersburg, Tampa, and Ocala/Gainesville.
We have good remarks by industry people but no reviews.

Atlas Van Lines agents

--Atlantic Relocation (Atlas) in Tampa.
This company has good comments by industry professionals and it won a quality award from the van line in 2004. However, it was said to be under new management as of summer 2005, and there is a complaint about an ongoing move having to do with delay and lack of communication:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4258 (interstate)

United Van Lines agents

--Fister Moving & Storage (United) in Lakeland.
This company is run by the same person, Randy Browning, who runs Browning Moving & Storage in Tallahassee (see below). The phone number is 800-722-6683.
We have good comments about its performance on interstate moves from "23" (a sales rep for another United agent) and also good comments from "PMueller" (a sales rep for an Allied agent):
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6405

--Suddath (United) in Tampa.
No reviews but good comments by industry people.

Independent moving companies

--Beach Transfer in St. Petersburg.
There is a good report on this small company run by Tom Kilpatrick:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4457 (several within-state moves)

I advise against using the independent company Florida Van Lines/Mid-State Moving & Storage in Clearwater (Tampa area) because of doubts expressed by industry professionals.

PANHANDLE

North American Van Lines agents

--Aadvantage (North American) in Tallahassee.
We have one good report:
http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4243 (interstate)

United Van Lines agents

--Browning Moving & Storage (United) in Tallahassee.
This company used to be called Middlebrooks Relocation; its phone number is 850-576-1231. We have good comments about it by "PMueller" (a sales rep for an Allied agent):

Funny how a scam site can post messages about something between two individual parties and then blame it on a third party that had nothing to do with the deal? That sounds scammy to me...

I note that the above anonymous message was sent from the mail system at A-1 Moving. If there is another side to the story, please post it or send me a Private Message. A moving company should not offer to resolve a situation and then do nothing. As can be seen above, Mr. Andy Newitt (self-identified as the GM of A-1 Moving) posted, "Now that I am aware of the problem I am sure that it will be handled quickly." That was more than a month ago. Attacking this website as "scammy" is not productive.

An employee of a company, in the performance of his duty, wearing the company uniform, using the company truck to transport the property - and the company has "nothing" to do with it.

I'm not asking the company to reimburse me. I accept that I was wrong to trust the employee, but I would think that a company that values it's reputation would take some action with their employee knowing that something wrong has occurred, to get the employee to correct the situation.

If they employ this person, and are aware of the occurrence, and take no action, then it appears that they condone the action, and the credibility of the company should be called into question.

Nothing scammy about that.
