*Moving from St. Paul, MN to Raleigh, NC

Postby macd » Sun Apr 23, 2006 6:41 pm

Does anyone have experiences to share with Minnesota based moving companies?

This week I am getting estimates from some of the following:

McCollister Transportation (Mayflower)
Mohawk Moving and Storage (United)
Berger Moving Forward (Allied)
Twin Cities Moving Systems (Bekins)
Action Moving Services (Atlas)
Beltmann Group (North American)
Metcalf Moving and Storage (Mayflower)

I recognize the names of all of them. You should have some good representation from these and will be able to make a good decision.

Well, "macd," you are prodding me into researching what has been said on MovingScam.com about Minnesota moving companies. These are three that have been mentioned in Minneapolis: Wheaton (Paragon Moving), your Bekins company (Twin Cities Moving Systems, Inc.), and United (Barrett Moving & Storage). I'll see what I can dig up, or you can use the Search button above to look for yourself.

Update: I couldn't find much, but "sleepingkerri" has settled on Ace for her move so you might want to contact her to find out how it goes: http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7934

You will drive yourself nuts getting so many estimates. First you have three Uniteds/Mayflowers. I would call McCollisters, they have a company here in Raleigh also (their United side). Beltmann is another large group with representation in both locations.

I would point out that Bekins does not have an agent in Raleigh anymore therefore your help to unload might come from the street.

Atlas and Allied both have representation in both locations.

Best of luck,
Michael

Based on their quote, for now, I'm leaning towards
Mohawk Moving and Storage
8271 West 35W Service Dr.
Minneapolis, MN 55449

I want to look up their info on safersys.org.
They list their DOT license as 077949... but that is United Van Lines'.
Should they have their own license number?

No they move under United authority. Mohawk is a very good agent.

"sleepingkerri" gave Mohawk's own license numbers in this post - http://www.movingscam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7934

Giving myself a bump.
My belongings were loaded onto a truck this morning. So far so good (knock on wood), stay tuned for a complete review.
Wish me luck!
Thanks for your support.

Has macd checked back in? I would be very curious to know how the move went, since I may be moving next year from the same area.

Yes, he did check in by sending me an email. He ended up not going with Mohawk and didn't have a very good move. He will post later.

Macd selected a local United agent, I believe McCollisters, maybe their Mayflower side. They loaded him locally and not directly onto the drivers truck that was bringing him to raleigh. They missed his scheduled delivery dates and he was in a battle for collecting late fee's. He contacted me during the process and asked if I could help but we were booked and no other agent I called could help. Last I heard his goods finally got loaded and delivered, late, but heard nothing after that.

Macd told me that he will post after he's done with the claims he's going to file. He didn't want to post anything that may hurt that.
