Reviews for United Van Lines

United charges customers based on how many containers are used for the move. The number of containers is determined by the company's assessor prior to the moving day and cannot be changed, even if in reality a fewer number of containers is used for the move - the customer is still charged for the number of containers the assessor estimated (rightly or wrongly). I believe that United’s policy of “assessor is always right” and “no price adjustment on the move day” is fundamentally flawed and unfair to the customer who is at the mercy of a potentially incompetent or unscrupulous assessor. United should be willing to adjust the price based on how many containers are actually used on the moving day. Otherwise it looks very much like a scam: the assessor sells more container space than is required and the movers make sure that fewer containers are actually used, therefore containers can be double-sold. This is what happened in my case: I was sold 2 containers when I only needed 1 (the movers made sure to fit everything into one container). United refused to adjust the price on the moving date. I was charged for the service I didn't need and didn't use. Seems like an unfair business practice.
